Last seen together in the box-office smash Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby director Adam McKay brings Will Ferrell and John C Reilly back together again in Step Brothers!

In Step Brothers Ferrell plays Brennan Huff, a sporadically employed thirty-nine-year-old who lives with his mother, Nancy (Mary Steenburgen). Reilly plays Dale Doback, a terminally unemployed forty-year-old who lives with his father, Robert (Richard Jenkins). When Robert and Nancy marry and move in together, Brennan and Dale are forced to live with each other as step brothers. As their narcissism and downright aggressive laziness threaten to tear the family apart, these two middle-aged, immature, overgrown boys will orchestrate an insane, elaborate plan to bring their parents back together. To pull it off, they must form an unlikely bond that maybe, just maybe, will finally get them out of the house.

After the comedy-light Talledega... and the frankly pretty awful Semi-Pro, it's good to report that Ferrell seems to have got some of his mojo back.

As with most films of this type the plot is pretty unimportant, and is an excuse for Ferrell and Reilly to act like big kids in a series of pretty funny set-pieces.

There are still too many lulls, but at least when it gets going there are some big laughs to be found. As demonstrated in Walk Hard, Reilly is able to pull this kind of material off - but this still fails to hit the heights of Anchorman, perhaps because it's set in the mundane present rather than the wacky nostalgic 70s of so many films of this type.

However, when the two leads are on screen this is every bit as good as their previous output. Let's hope they make another film that improves on this as much as this improves on Talledega... - and then we might finally have something to rival Anchorman

I found this film to be very childish and not funny. I am not overly keen on certain kinds of lavatorial amercian humour and this was the epitomy of it. Ok if you are about twelve to fifteen with the type of humour schoolkids find funny but it was not entertaining with a couple of laughter moments at best.

 Disappointing for Will Ferrell

I was looking forward to seeing this being a fan of Will Ferells other films but I found it was disapointing and lacking many good laughs.

I must admit i didnt take to this film. I found it to be silly to the point that it didn't make me laugh. As a will ferrell fan this was disappointing. On the other hand my bfriend and brother found it to be a great film so it must have done something right. Perhaps a reccomendation for the lads! I definately wouldn't buy it!
