this film made my heart race and my temperature drop! as a big fan of horror films, this gave me everything i wanted- suspense, fear and anxiety . the subtitles were no problem and added so much to the character of the film ( wouldnt have been the same with some american accent) such a twist that i did not see coming, love love loved it! get it for halloween, u will not regret it! ;)

This is one of my favourite movies of all time (the other one is The Green Mile) This is supernatural and scary but also so so sad. I have watched it a good few times and its a film that always stays in my mind long after I have seen it. . I have passed this onto many friends and they loved it as well - even though it is subtitled it does not take away from the atmosphere and storyline of the film.Well worth buying

*Producer Del Toro has worked on some major films. A year after producing Pans Labyrinth, one of the unique films of 2006 Del Toro produced The Orphanage. With expectations high this didn't disappoint.
*The Orphanage is a great film, its well made and is more of a psychological horror. There's an intense yet very sad story. Its a film that really creeps up on you. Cant understand how a film this scary is classed by some as not being a true Horror! A great film if your after a bit of story and not just Gore!

this is far from jumpy , scary, creepy , i didnt jump once nor did i find sack kid creepy . dont get me wrong the storyline was very good and well written and it was a very interesting ending . the movie for me is a mix of sixth sense and the haunting but with out any scare factor it lost a star for me as this claimed to be a horror which is far from the truth

  An excellent, menacing wonder tale

This Spanish film is genuinely creepy, chilling and intriguing. The ominous story is clever, the acting faultless and it looks beautiful. This is all you would expect from Guillermo del Toro, who produces here, the director of the equally wonderful, and more visual Pan's Labyrinth.

The believable story is about a couple who adopt a child, and go to live in an old Orphanage, where the lady was raised. The boy has imaginary friends and then goes missing. A gruesome fact is uncovered....can they find him in time?.

Intelligent and inauspicious. A superb movie, with subtle tension, chills and underlying horror thrills. The quality of this film is in the idea, the cleverness of the non obvious ill feeling and the exceptional delivery and overall look.

I was reluctant to watch this because of the subtitles, but my mum persisted and after 10 minutes I was hooked. I really enjoyed it, the ending was nothing like the normal horror I watch and it has some real twists and turns. well worth it.

  Good Ghost Story

I have to be honest and say that as much as I enjoy this film, I was also originally a tiny bit disappointed with it. When it had first come out in cinemas it was billed as the scariest film ever made, which I never quite found it. However, a few years later and minus some marketing hype it IS most definitely a top class horror.

The story itself is wonderfully teased out slowly, primarily following Laura (the excellent Belen Rueda) as she returns to the orphanage she once lived in with her family and the mysterious events which follow, allowing the audience to become involved with the central character more deeply than usual.

The result is an example of gloriously, old-fashioned atmospheric ghost storytelling very similar to 'The Others' with few cheap scare tactics and an involving enough central story that most will be kept entertained until the truth is revealed and the film's final moments recalled certain elements of 'Pan's Labyrinth' as well.

Well worth a watch.

the first time I watched the film i was quite confused but when i watched it back again I understood it more and I found the ending sad instead of scary so now every time Im watching this movie with my friends whilst they are screaming Im crying because I find it sad and feel deeply sorry for the mother =( all in all an excellent movie that is well worth watching if your into creepy horror and suspense! =] ***** -Laura

I really enjoyed this film. The fact it has English subtitles didn't spoil it. The acting was very good. A few chills throughout the film. The ending was good. If you like ghost films then you should enjoy this one.
