The Pineapple Express, directed by David Gordon Green, stars Seth Rogan, James Franco and Danny R. McBride.

Lazy stoner Dale Denton (Seth Rogen) has only one reason to visit his equally lazy dealer Saul Silver (James Franco): to purchase weed, specifically, a rare new strain called Pineapple Express.

But when Dale becomes the only witness to a murder by a crooked cop (Rosie Perez) and the city's most dangerous drug lord (Gary Cole), he panics and dumps his roach of Pineapple Express at the scene. But the weed is so rare that it can be traced back Saul. Dale and Saul have to run for their lives as the bad guys are hot on their trail! All aboard the Pineapple Express.

 Simply Brilliant

The outline of the film is about slacker Dale Denton (Seth Rogan) being in the wrong place at the wrong time, by witnessing a murder. Not know what to do, he goes to see Saul Silver (James Franco) who has been Dale's pothead new dealer for the last couple of months. The two of them go on the run getting themselves into funny and sometimes ridiculous situations along the way. Stopping every now and then to have a smoke. In the short time the two of them are on the run, they go from just being simply customer and dealer to become the best of friends. As the film goes on they try to get themselves out of trouble. But as the two of them don't have a clue what they are doing, they end up getting caught in the middle of a drug war between two gangs. All they can do is dodge the bullets and try to save each other lives.

Pineapple Express was one of the best films of last year. I've been waiting for the dvd ever since I saw this at the cinema. Seth Rogan and James Franco put in superb performances, Seth Rogan is his usual brilliantly hilarious self. James Franco, who I'd only ever seen in the Spiderman films as Harry, was amazingly funny and I hope he decides to do more comedy roles in the future. The two of them worked extremely well together.

But for me, I predominantly enjoyed all the one liners that seem to come from the supporting cast. I was laughing from start to finish. The fight and action scenes were exceptionally funny and had me crying with laughter. This is one of the must-see films of the year.

I'll be pre-ordering my copy now.

A huge fan of the apatow branch of recent films, seth rogen himself, guns.. Explosions... Violence and any strain of marijuana with the word pineapple in it, i went to this film with high hopes of seeing the greatest movie ever made but alas.. Something was missing. I think apatow is letting the actors imporvise too much and it is certainly becoming more and more noticable.. Other than that a fantastic performace from james franco more than makes up for the less than impressive improv from seth rogen.

5/5 For mcbride & franco
4/5 For the script & rogen

Judd Apatow is the modern day John Hughes, with his well observed characters, outlandish gags, and movies that at times are gross-out funny but have a real heart. Pinapple Express is no exception to his rule. This is an outrageousely hysterical and entertaining comedy. Seth Rogan again plays a lazy stoner, but this does not matter, as he just so likeable in any film he is in. The real suprise comes from James Franco (Spider-man) and in this he proves he can add more to a film than just a frown. In this he play Seth Rogan's spaced-out dope dealer, and between them both go on a crazy miss-adventure as they are hunted by crooked cops, and drug dealer's, that all leads up to a side splitting action filled final third, where they have to combine what little talent they have in fighting and mental skills and take down the bad guy's. This is a brilliant stoner comedy, that is as smart as it is stupid. Brilliant gags, very funny dialogue, and two brilliant leads, that make this one of the best comedies of the year.
Of course this film will not be to all taste's, But if you like The40 year old vergin, Superbad, Knocked up, then you will love this.
Outlandish, and outstanding entertainment!
