A prequel to the last two Underworld movies, this installment traces the beginnings of the blood-feud between the dominant Death Dealers and their former slaves, the Lycans. Led by the forceful Lucian, the Lycan uprising begins to take shape in order to escape the shackles of the evil Viktor, the vampire king who rules them.

A good prequel to a trio of imaginative films!

Both myself and partner are huge Underworld fans and we where unsure wether this movie would do justice to the first two films, without Kate Beckinsale it was hard to imagine how Rhona Mitra could pull this off but to our delight it was crafted exactly how you'd imagine and perfectly in sync with its predecessors, Rhona Mitra as Sonja deserves her place in the Underworld saga. Even though the story revolves around Sonja and Lucian I must admit that actor Bill Nighy stole the show for me as the cruel and ruthless Viktor. Its a perfect love story mixed with fantasy and myth to produce an outstanding, under-rated and enjoyable movie. Recommended!!

Slots in perfect with the first and second movies...

Top 100  Reviewer Top 100 DVD Reviewer

Went the cinema to see this movie and was overall not impressed, but i decided to give it a second chance and buy the DVD, and it is alot better.

Its a pity that Kate Beckinsale did not reprise her role but Rhona Mitra does a fine job taking on the lead role of Sonja, sure we know the back story from the other films but this just extends on that and adds the action and famaliar charecters pop up from the previous.

For me it was definetly better the second time round and the movie is even better if one and two are watched before it. Very good for the third in the series.

Great film - Best of the 3

The previous 2 'Underworlds' were just missing something in my opinion (maybe because i wasn't a great fan of vampires with modern technology/guns!) - Vampire/Werewolf films are better suited with swords set in the past! Some great acting (Although Kate Beckinsale was fantastic!) and the storyline is great, although i was disappointed it missed out the whole Kraven/Lucien deal. But yea a great film!

 very good

The original Underworld, I felt, was deeply flawed and poorly paced. With the sequel, Evolution, I thought "wow!" as the producers had really stepped up the game and made probably one of the best Werewolf / Vampire movies to date. Unfortunately whilst I note many reviewers are gushing over this prequel, to me it was a step back again (no pun intended). Don't get me wrong, I don't need non-stop action. The film has its moments, but is it scary? Not at all. Is the action epic? No. It is character driven but Rhona Mitra struggles with her role and just isn't interesting enough to carry the story. Bill Nighy is fantastic as always, but the film seems satisfied with delivering less. For a third movie in a series, I think Underworld 3 misjudged its audience. Fans of the first two movies must of course watch it for themselves. Hopefully I am in a minority. If its Werewolves,Vampires and Politics you are into, I guess this is for you! But I agree with some of the other reviews that the producers did try to set out a complex background story and in this respect they should be commended....I just wished the film had been longer, and perhaps more epic as it feels rushed as though they ran out of money and thought, oh well, that'll do....
