Based on Tom Clancy's best selling cold war novel.
Directed by John McTiernan ( Die Hard, Predator) and starring Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin. The film oozes class and cold and clammy tension, with Connery playing the Russian Captain Ramius, who steals the latest technologically-superior nuclear sub( The red October )
But is the captain trying to launch an independant nuclear attack on the U.S sparking off WWIII of is he trying to defect. It's Alec Baldwin as the young CIA opperatve Jack Ryan task to find out Ramius's full intensions. But with the entire Soviet Navy looking for the Red October, Ryan has his work cut out. The film is a real well written thriller, Connery is good as the captain and Baldwin also is well cast as Ryan. This film seeths with high-tech excitement and sweats with the tension of men who hold doomsday in there hands.

Sean connory at his best, with a star filled cast too. The book is definately better dont get me wrong, but this is one of a very few number of films which is very good even compared to its written counterpart!
