Set in a fictitious village in the north of England called Royston Vasey, we witness the lives of over sixty depressing, but hilarious, characters.
All 6 episodes of Series One which introduces some of the characters:
Tubbs and Edward: The Pig nosed proprietors of the local shop who don't like change. In fact they don't even give change.
The Denton Family: They run an ordered home with no solids in the downstairs lavatory and regular lectures on self-abuse...
Geoff, Mike and Brian: They are local businessman and best friends, although Geoff hates Mike. He also hates Brian.
Pauline: The town's monstrously unsympathetic Restart Officer for whom the unemployed are a sad waste of skin.
Barbara: A pre-op transsexual (with a voice deeper than Barry White) and the proprietor of Babs Cabs.
Les McQueen: He never got over the golden days of his band Creme Brulee - when he could walk into a urinal and heads would turn...

You will be forgiven if you think that the League of Gentlemen may suffer from bad taste, their humour is as black as coal and as sharp as a butcher's knife. But it is their facination with the macbre which makes their series such a joy to watch.
The first series introduces you to Royston Vasey - a town which claims "You'll Never Leave" and it isn't until you have watched the first episode that you realise that you may not have choice in doing so!
This wonderful series introduces you to many characters, as well as the sketches that the League are well known for on the radio.
Each member relishes all the characters they play, however grotesque they seem to be and the stories keep you glued to your seat, just because you become interested in the possible outcomes.
You must see this!! In fact buy it!! I have had my copy for years and I still find it hillarious.
Fantastic series *****

The very first, and best series of the League of Gentlemen. Fantastic, funny and weird, a must for any League fan.
