I don't need to explain Avatar, nearly everyone has seen it. It is a masterpiece. All those who rate it low are doing so on poor reasoning. Yes, the storyline is similar to other films, but sometimes enhanced visuals just makes a movie better than others. A complete world with detailed aspects was interpreted from someone's imagination, that alone is an achievement.
Worth watching? Definitely.
Worth purchasing? Definitely more.
This was the director who gave us "The Terminator" and "Aliens", he's waaayy better than this. Technically this is brilliant, no argument. But you cannot just have a lot of style and no substance and this film is so lacking in substance it hurts. I sat in the cinema thinking "I've seen this somewhere before" and then it struck me, it's "Dances with wolves" in space!
Very disappointing comeback from a great director.
Yes this film has amazing imagery and excellent CGI but the story line is exactly the same as the animated classic: Ferngully.
This is well below the standard that should be in a film as big and high budget as this, and I am angry that they could not have put some thought into a new story that gave you some emotion, left you angry, upset, empowered, anything. The original; Ferngully, is more emotive than this.
Instead of being a powerful thought provoking emotional masterpiece, the film just wraps up like a neat little Hollywood parcel and leaves you with nothing other than the feeling; "that was nice".
The film is worth watching for the imagery and maybe I'm being a little harsh with a two star but hype needs bringing back down to earth.
