Full Circle:

The TARDIS falls through a CVE into E-Space and arrives on the planet Alzarius. There the inhabitants of a crashed Starliner and a group of young rebels called the Outlers, led by a boy named Varsh and including his brother Adric, are being terrorised by a race of Marshmen who emerge from the marshes at a time known as Mistfall.

State Of Decay

The Doctor, Romana, K9 and Adric - an Outler from Alzarius who has stowed away aboard the TARDIS - arrive on a planet where the native villagers live in fear of 'the Wasting' and of three Lords named Zargo, Camilla and Aukon who rule from an imposing Tower. The Lords are soon revealed to be vampire servants of the last of the Great Vampires, a race referred to in Time Lord mythology.

Warrior's Gate:

The TARDIS is hijacked in the vortex by a time sensitive Tharil named Biroc, and brought to a strange white void. Biroc wants to free the others of his race who are being transported in a slave ship, captained by Rorvik, which is also trapped in the void. The only other thing present in the void is an ancient gateway leading to a decrepit banqueting hall.

These three stories from Tom Baker's last season are all excellent in their own ways. For me, Full Circle is the best. It qualifies as a classic; a multi-layered story, its secrets revealed in perfectly paced segments, with a great cast, beautiful location filming, and a cliffhanger ending to the first episode that's up there with the series' best ever. State of Decay is less original but still entertaining, with a good guest cast entertainingly hamming up their vampire roles. Warriors Gate is one of the most bizarre and innovative stories ever attempted by the series. These stories introduce the companion Adric (Matthew Waterhouse is at his best - although that's not saying much - in Full Circle) while saying goodbye to Romana and K9 and are a must have for all admirers of good Doctor Who. The writers for these stories are a diverse and very talented bunch: Andrew Smith, who was a teenager at the time; Terrance Dicks, former script editor and a frequent writing contributor; and first-rate novelist Stephen Gallagher.

Tom Baker's hit and miss final year

Full Circle introduced Adric and was an entertaining story with swamp men. State Of Decay was superb. The adaptation of the vampire myth was excellently told in a sci-fi setting. Adric was dubious as you never knew who's side he was actually on. The vampires themselves were sufficiently cheesey to make a thrilling addition. This was the best story in Tom Baker's final year as the Doctor. Warriors' Gate saw Romana leave with K9, and was generally dull. The skeletal robot knight was the only highlight.

This set is a worthy addition, mainly for the fangtastic State Of Decay.

I can not wait to finally own this on DVD. I wish more boxsets like this would be released. I know soon we will have The Rescue & The Romans released together & at some point this DVD will be released: Frontier in Space & Planet of the Daleks, but please we want more stories to be released quicker, boxsets eg The Curse of Peladon & The Monster of Peladon, Kinda & Snakedance, Mawdryn Undead, Terminus & Enlightenment. I know things take awhile & don't get me wrong The Restoration Team are doing a great job but if this can be done more stories to be release in a month. Loving the stories & of course loving all the DVD extras.

This would have been a great box set if they had cast someone better than Matthew Waterhouse as Adric. Very ridged performance from him. Best of the 3 is State of Decay, originally written for Leela, it is an enjoyable return to the early Tom Baker style of Gothis Horror.

These stories have been released in the past on vhs and it is exceellent news that they are being finally released on dvd! These are no doubt some of tom bakers finest stories of his final season! State of decay is one of the best and full circle to! Im sure that these stories will attract the more recent fans of the new series and fully show that many of the classic stories match that of the latest seriers!!! Tom baker is one of the best docs and David tennant is in the same league!!
