A boy and girl face the challenge of the world's last frontier. Dangers they had never known before... A people they had never seen before...
Nicolas Roeg's mystical masterpiece chronicles the physical, spiritual, and emotional journey of a sister and brother abandoned in the harsh Australian outback.
Joining an Aboriginal boy on his walkabout - a tribal initiation into manhood - these modern children pass from innocence into experience as they are thrust from the comforts of civilization into the savagery of the natural world...

A truly great film especialy jenny,s swim (all lads my generation (44) came of age watching this film ) the scenary and the shots are a marval its an advert for aussie in its self a very good if sad story about 2 kids left in the outback by an obvoiusly distruaght and broken father who tries to kill them ( i often wonderd what hes story was ) thay wander round untill a young aboriginal boy on hes trek to become a man takes care of them this film realy is worth the hour n half watching time if only for the swimming scene.

John barrys fantastic haunting score plays a large part in bringing this film the praise it so richly deserves. A totaly original film in which i have never seen anything like it since.
This was the film i fell in love with jenny agguter and watching her and listening to barrys music and the beautiful australian scenery
Makes this one of the best films ever made in my opinion.

Saw this film when I was at school and apart from the obvious attraction the film has stayed with me ever since. From an amazing score to the stunning scenery this film really has something for everyone. Originally intended to be released unclassified by Nicholas Roeg the version we get for region 2 has slight cuts in it but I don't think this detracts from the overall message too much? Hopefully at some point the powers that be will see fit to release a version more akin to the directors original vision but until then this is still a potent tale of teenage emotion and crossing of cultures and beliefs. To be witnessed I think...
