American Psycho is a darkly hilarious indictment of 80s yuppie culture; an exploration of shallow hedonism and empty-headed materialism and the nihilistic desolation that these traits instil in the lead character. Christian Bale takes Patrick Bateman from tight-lipped obsession to wide-eyed mania with compellingly cheesy relish. His violent attempts to find meaning in an existence devoid of feeling are deftly handled and provide plenty of shocks without resorting to gratuitous gore. In truth we learn little of the inner workings of Bateman's mind but this darkly comic satire more than makes up for this shortcoming with its wry humour and razor-sharp performances.
Brilliant BUT....

After reading the fantasticly dark & funny book, I hired then bought the film. Excellent performances from all and Bale in his acting prime as Patrick Bateman. However, in the book Bateman was a serious perfectionist and had very high standards of taste. The prostitutes in the film are certainly not the type he'd go for and I think the producer/director should have put Bateman's personality across more accurately. He was a sod in the book but far less so in the film.
But the film is fantastic and I highly recommend it!
true insanity

the plot and script really throw you into the mind of a killer, an empty shell as it were, very good film and leaves you as confused as he is
good adaptation of a great book

the story itself, as well in the book as in the movie, is very convincing and intriguing: about a high class pscyhopath and sadistic serial killer, performed here -very enthousiastically- by christian bale who shows he really is a good actor. don't expect anything nice in this movie, even the nice things have only one reason: they lead to very bad things. it's not that he's playing a very lovable person, but you might get to appreciate (not 'like') what he does... in his mind he's only defending himself from the stupidity and ignorance of other people, and how.
Bloody great, Bale is brilliant!!

This is a really good movie. Lots of great acting and a hell of a story to it. IMO this made Christian Bale a star. He was so good as a young investment banker Patrick Bateman. He really did his best work in this movie. So this is great, highly recommended.
Brilliant Brilliant Brilliant!!!

Awesome film. A MUST SEE!!! Such a good plot and Bale is incredible. Watch it now!!!
This movie will amaze you.. christian bale plays patrick bateman.. a well educated handsome 26yr old living the dream..he works on wall street during the day and by night is a cold blooded killer full of rage and madness.. set in the yuppie heydays of the 80s its one of those films that you actually side with his character as the villian. to this day im still confused about the ending and what it means.. like vanilla sky you will end up with your own theories.. maybe the book would explain more..but overall this movie will grip, shock and make you laugh. never in a movie have you seen someone get butchered to a huey lewis song.. fab. american psycho,,, no introduction necessary.
A brilliant film with one of Bale's best performances. It is hard to classify this film as it has a bit of everything but the standout is the very dark comedy, particularly the scene with Jared Leto with Huey Lewis' aforementioned hit as the background music. Some great send-ups of the decadence and greed of the 80's in particular.
Bale is Brilliant

This is a fantastic film, with some truly classic sequences. Christian Bale is out of this world, possibly one of his best performances to date. It has an interesting, yet twisted storyline which will keep you gripped. This is a film that should be in every collection for sure, a future cult classic - if it isn't already.
Brilliant and weird!

I really enjoyed this film. It was slightly weird in places but that just reflects the weird personality of the main character. It is a must see film for fans of this genre, you will definetely enjoy this film.
