Multimillionaire John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) has a plan for a spectacular new theme park: a secluded island where visitors can observe actual dinosaurs. With the latest development in DNA technology, scientists can clone brachiosaurs, tricerotops, velociraptors, and a Tyrannosaurus Rex, using the blood preserved in amber from insects that bit the dinosaurs long ago. Paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), and Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) are duly impressed with the living results during an advance visit. But when a devious employee tampers with the sophisticated security system, the dinosaurs escape, forcing the visitors to fight for their very survival.

Back in 1993 the concept of CGI was a relatively new one. That was why, when audiences sat down to watch Jurassic Park the combined sound of millions of jaws hitting the ground echoed throughout the world! The term 'movie magic' is one that is possibly used too much these days and so has perhaps lost its true meaning. Back in '93, when I set eyes upon the first dinosaur sighting, the huge brontosaurus rearing up on its hind legs, I was in no doubt that Spielberg (and the FX guys) were masters of the art - modern day magicians of quite extraordinary talent. Even the 'science' was fascinating, though simplified from the original book, and suddenly dinosaurs became cool all over again. I could easily take or leave the two sequels, they did nothing to particularly expand on an already perfect original, and the rumours of a fourth outing has my 'overkill' light flashing in my brain. But the original is a classic, and though the technology is all over the place today - from cinema to television - Jurassic remains the grandaddy of all dinosaur movies...

One of the most pivotal films of the 90's, and arguably of modern cinema, this monster movie gave a terrifying and exciting insight into how Dinosaurs lived, and how they would 'adapt' 65 million years after their extinction. A full on action film that will leave you on the edge of your seat. You won't forget the raptors....

On it's cinema release back in the summer of 1993, The movie left you spellbound, as Spielberg brought these majestic creatures back to life after 65 million years.
Based very loosley on the book, the film is a great rollercoaster ride, but lurking under the wow factor you now see the faults that you could hardly see in 93, due to there had been nothing like it seen before. The films plot is thin and the characters a under written. The kids are good and never irritate, Sam Neil is excellent. But Richard attembourgh accent is all over the place, drifting from Scottish to South African. But these are minor faults and are soon forgotten when the Creatures get hungry. The T REX attack is still scary as hell, and the raptors still thrill.
This is Spielberg doing what he does best by pleasing the crowds,The film was a milestone in the leap forward for special effects, and for all the advancements with the effect, the film does not have the power of Spielbergs 1975 monster classic Jaws !

What a fantastic film. Spielberg showed he could deliver yet another popular film after classics such as E.T.,Jaws & Raiders of the Lost Ark. The CGI dinosaurs look very real & still look outstanding even by today's standards. (Rememer this was 1993 when this came out) Great acting by the likes of Sam Neil & Sir Richard Attenborough. Take a bow Jeff Goldblum who steals the show with his own unique style. One of the greatest films ever made. Shame the sequels weren't as good.
