After one too many incidents of bad behaviour at his last school, Owen Matthews (British actor Julian Morris) arrives at Westlake Prep - where a young woman has recently been found murdered in the dark woods nearby.

Owen quickly falls in with the school's unofficial 'liar's club', including the beautiful and savvy Dodger (Lindy Booth, Dawn of the Dead, Wrong Turn) and quick-tempered Tom (Jared Padalecki, House of Wax, Supernatural).

At Owen's suggestion, his new friends decide to spread a rumour that a serial killer called 'The Wolf' committed the recent murder and is planning to strike again. Only when the school's journalism teacher (Jon Bon Jovi), warns the group about the kinds of predators that lurk on the internet does Owen begin to regret sending their falsified story into cyberspace. When the described 'victims' suddenly start to disappear, the friends are no longer able to determine where the lies end and the truth begins. As someone - or something - starts hunting the players themselves, the game turns terrifyingly real.

I came across this film when I was bored one evening, and the synopsis caught my attention immediately. I found that even though most of the actors are pretty much unknown, however, they all brought the storyline together REALLY well and worked so well together on screen.

The reason that this film was initially not the sucess it should have been, was because it was advertised as a teen horror/slasher film, when infact it is more of a murder mystery/psychological thriller, with many twists and thrills along the way. And so when people saw that there was hardly any blood and gore, they were put off because they were expecting a horror film.

I think that overall all a clever, original plot, incredible actors (for their unknown status), a great soundtrack and finally the suprising twists towards the end, are what make this film so outstanding.
Julian Morris did incredibly well in such a large part, with the little experience that he has and made everything he said belivable. His good-looks make him shine also!

If you have the choice and are a fan of either murder mysteries or psychological thrillers, make sure you see this film (and buy it at such a cheap price)!!

 A clever idea

Not your typical teen horror. This features a cast of unknown, but good, actors and a great storyline. It has its fair share of jumpy moments and a killer who is unlike any other. Just under an hour and a half long, it won't change the world or win any oscars, but its defininitely worth a look for under a fiver. The DVD also has loads of extras, which is pretty rare for a horror film, including rehearsals, trailers and a video-documentryof the making of the film.

A few month ago i had the great fortune to come across this film, i was astounded at how much Cry Wolf could do in such a short space of time. I was constantly second guessing what would happen next as this film will really make you think, it is also not without it's bumps and jumps with a few scary moments thrown in there.

I would call Cry Wolf a psychological thriller as eight college students lie their way into creating a serial killer on campus but things go terribly wrong when the line between fact and fiction becomes freyed.

Absolutely well worth the bargain bottom price and i would encourage anyone and everyone to buy this film.

Cry Wolf is a great film. The storyline is very original. It was a great low budget film, that was shot nicely and had a great cast. Jared Padalecki was great and it's good to see him in more films when he's on a break from Supernatural. Lindy Booth was good and we saw her step up to a main role in this film. I think that she did a great job and acted it out well. Julian Morris had a good first Hollywood appearance. But i think the film made him look good. Sometimes the expressions on his face were flat/lifeless and it felt like he really wasn't trying. Jon Bon Jovi wasn't bad as the teacher either, I'm a fan of his so I'm just going to say, stick to making music and not acting.

The film built really well to the end and it had some great twists at the end which were brilliant to see. They really turned the story on its head and made up for the small lack in pace through out the film.
The problem i had with the film was that yes, it was original, but how do you make something original thats also contemporary and fits in well. Cry Wolf did this okay. But there are better examples of it. And i think it's just an average film, and there wasn't anything really that memorable about it, that made it special.

3 star film
4 star product (great DVD extras really helped to sell it)

3.5 stars overall.

Cheap, boring & very badly acted.
I was amazed to see the positive reviews on this site, were they watching the same film.
The plot is convoluted to the extent that it is impossible to care for the characters (not that you would given the standard of the acting).
Please avoid this poorly executed attempt at a 'clever' horror film.
