This is a great series and I am so glad that someone at work recommended it to me.
It sees the main character Michael, who is a spy, get "burn notice", basically axed as a spy, and dropped off in Miami, with all of his assets frozen and no chance of leaving sunny, sandy Miami. Through out this whole season we see Michael trying to find the people who "burnt" him. However with no money and no ability to get a job, he helps people with situations that others cannot, with the assistance of his two friends from his now former spy days. We have Fiona, the trigger happy ex-girlfriend, who was a terrorist in Ireland and is very good with guns and explosives, and Sam, an ex-navy seal, who is now enjoying the good life in Miami. This trio works really well together, not only as a team in the series, but also as three characters that provide a lot of comic relief throughout very action packed episodes. We also find out a lot about Michael and his past as his mother, Madeline, lives in Miami, along with his childhood home. We see how being a spy affects your family but at the same time she is extremely funny.
One of the other great things about this series is that Michael explains a lot of what he is trying to do in each episode, such as how and why he is planning on doing something, or how he is making something, such as an explosive charge using things around the house, which is great as I wouldn't have a clue what was happening otherwise. This is done in a very clever way as a voice over from Michael as if he is thinking it. This really adds to the story as it helps us non-spies know what is going on and I feel like I am understanding how to be a spy, I now know how to evade someone who is following me in a car and other such useful tips.
The story lines are easy to follow, each episode usually sees Michael helping someone with the over arching story through out the season of who burnt Michael. The great thing is that each episode has lots of action and usually something being blown up. There is no confusion of what is happening in this series, no great purpose where everyone is actually dead or we won't tell you what everything means until season 10 million by which point you will be bored and frustrated, this is a TV series that is going back to the basis of being a TV series, that is being an entertaining 45 minutes of TV once a week. After each episode and I can't wait to watch the next one, because I want to, not because I have to in order to understand the big picture.
Two big thumbs up from me and I would recommend this one to any of my friends.
