Dog Day Afternoon is the story of Sonny an incompetent bank robber and his partner Sal as they bungle their way through their first heist to an ultimately tragic conclusion. As the heist spirals out of control all involved lose the plot with the highlight being the arrival of Sonny's 'wife' to the scene. It's then we find out his true motivation and how his struggle to break free from the everyday mundane life he leads has lead him to such a drastic course of action. Direction and script are superb with everything just right always serious in tone but there are moments of laugh out loud madness. That it's based on a true story makes it's emotional punch even stronger. Entertaining, involving and thought provoking
Turned into One Dog Day Afternoon!!

Top 100 DVD Reviewer
Like some of the other reviews have said i bought this just because Al Pacino was in it and i ended up with a crackin film!!
Made in 1975 by Sidney Lumet this is a true story about a Bank Robbery that goes wrong and turns into a Hostage situation! To make matters worse for the robbers it soon turns into a Media frenzy and is broadcast on National television for millions to see!!
A brilliant film with a gripping story, drama and politics, and superb actors including Al Pacino (Sonny) and John Cazale (Sal).
Also as it is the 2dvd special it has loads of interesting extras which i picked up at a bargain of just £4.99 and is a great addition to my collection!!
Nice one Play another top deal!

Im not going to lie when i bought this film i was slightly sceptical, i merely bought out of a leap of faith (due to the fact it has al pacino in it). However this is a feel good movie at times then ,dramatic then tense. All the while youre never unsure what the situation is. The film is awazing to sum it up and if youre a big al pacino fan look no further for another classic. And at under £5 you cant go wrong.
I'm in Love... with this film

This film is superb from the second it starts, both Al Pacino and John Cazale (R.I.P) play 2 hapless bank robbers, just doing a standard routine bank robbery, when everything goes wrong and it is turned into a hostage situation sparking a media frenzy. Lumet's flawless direction shows every characters true emotions, beautifully and a plot line that has a wonderful twist. I still can't understand why this film only won 1 oscar, because it is simply amazing.
