Beautiful, moving, emotive and sensational this gritty tribute to Liverpool and the changes that happened to the whole country throughout the post war era is one of the most moving films I have seen. The dialogue and music add to an atmosphere of hope and sometimes fear for what has been and what is in the future.

I agree with the previous comments that this film may not be for everyone but for me it is a masterpiece and one of enduring appeal.

This masterpiece is not just about Liverpool.
It can speak of any city that underwent an overhaul in the
50's or 60's.
For me it's the fair city of Nottingham.
I wept when i remembered my city and childhood.
Not all the changes that happened were for the best, this film remindes us that those 'blue remember'd hills' can never be walked again.
A must see dvd.

  Visual Poetry. A sensation.

Terence Davies returns with yet another grand cinematic achievement. 'Of Time and the City' is a eulogy to native Liverpool, entering its empty, poverty-struck streets and businesses, roaming around the allies and backstreets, with a gentle splash of contemporary Liverpudlian society along the way, this film is just essential.
It's more than a documentary feature; it's a groundbreaking and heart-shattering portrait of one of Britain's most important cities.

The film, soundtrack, narration and interviews are all just blissful.
Its short (lasting just 72 minutes), tender, nostalgic and just brilliant.

It's not going to suit all tastes, but avid film fans will be impressed and satisfied.
