Can't stop the signal...
Beloved television cult director Joss Whedon (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel) makes a spectacular first foray onto the big screen with Serenity, the cinematic adaptation of his wildly popular but short-lived sci-fi series, Firefly. A mix of space western, comedy, and drama, Serenity follows captain Malcolm "Mal" Reynolds (Nathan Fillion) and his ragtag crew as they trade their way around the edges of civilized society. Of particular interest are two passengers they take on, Simon and River Tam (Sean Maher and Summer Glau), a brother and his telepathic sister on the run from the corrupt governing Alliance. As notorious former members of the anti-Alliance opposition, Mal and his crew make it difficult for Simon and River to stay hidden. Everything goes completely awry when a government assassin is sent to retrieve River. As Mal is forced to choose between his close-knit crew and the brother and sister newcomers, it becomes apparent that River harbors both a dangerous secret and astounding fighting powers, and Mal decides that discovering the truth about what she knows might just be worth his time.
Many of the film's action sequences revolve around Summer Glau's martial arts skills in her portrayal of River. Glau prepared for her role with Hong Kong stuntwoman Ming Lu, as well as stunt coordinators Chad Stahelski and Hiro Koda, and as a result performed nearly all the stuntwork herself. In addition to the stellar stunts, realistic graphics, and an often haunting score, the film's actors display a rare chemistry that brings viewers both into their lives and into a possible version of humanity's future.

It arrived this morning and I have just finisged watching every inch and LOVE IT! Missed the series but am a great Buffy fan so thought it would be worth a look. It's a great movie! Any chance of another? And to dispell all those myths, I am female and 67 and have been a fan of sci-fi for over 50 years. It just keeps getting better.
This is an absolutely brilliant movie. Great characters, interesting plot and a fair few things happen that you wouldn't expect.
Great thing is you don't have to have watched the TV show Firefly to enjoy this movie, it's still brilliant (although you'll probably get more out of it if you have seen the TV show).
I've always thought that Serenity is basically what the new Star Wars trilogy should have been. Just a shame there isn't going to be any more.
Serenity is one awesome sci-fi with a brilliant story and a perfect cast, based on Joss Whedons amazing TV series firefly which only ever saw one series before it was cancelled, Serenity basically takes the whole series and gives it closure with a great ending, all the original cast is back and all with a better budget, this is a gem of a film and a must for any fan of cult classic sci-fi movies this is certainly one of them.
As my title says I advise you to watch the fantastic TV show Firefly before attempting to watch this feature length movie spin-off. The film picks up where the TV show left off (cancelled) But the film is darker and more violent. The characters are even better written and Nathan Falon's character is more darker in his personality. The film still is hip and has some very funny diologue. But with a much bigger budget than the show the Firefly shines brighter than ever. To talk about the plot would spoil the events in the film, but the outcome of the characters is very suprising. This really is a great film. but if you have not seen the TV show it will no doubt leave you cold and scratching your head in confusion.
If your a Firefly fan you no doubt already own this, but if you are just looking for a Sci-fi film to watch, I strongly suggest you Buy the series Firefly and then this.
A Classic Tv show, brought to the big screen with a classic movie.
