Can't stop the signal...

Beloved television cult director Joss Whedon (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel) makes a spectacular first foray onto the big screen with Serenity, the cinematic adaptation of his wildly popular but short-lived sci-fi series, Firefly. A mix of space western, comedy, and drama, Serenity follows captain Malcolm "Mal" Reynolds (Nathan Fillion) and his ragtag crew as they trade their way around the edges of civilized society. Of particular interest are two passengers they take on, Simon and River Tam (Sean Maher and Summer Glau), a brother and his telepathic sister on the run from the corrupt governing Alliance. As notorious former members of the anti-Alliance opposition, Mal and his crew make it difficult for Simon and River to stay hidden. Everything goes completely awry when a government assassin is sent to retrieve River. As Mal is forced to choose between his close-knit crew and the brother and sister newcomers, it becomes apparent that River harbors both a dangerous secret and astounding fighting powers, and Mal decides that discovering the truth about what she knows might just be worth his time.

Many of the film's action sequences revolve around Summer Glau's martial arts skills in her portrayal of River. Glau prepared for her role with Hong Kong stuntwoman Ming Lu, as well as stunt coordinators Chad Stahelski and Hiro Koda, and as a result performed nearly all the stuntwork herself. In addition to the stellar stunts, realistic graphics, and an often haunting score, the film's actors display a rare chemistry that brings viewers both into their lives and into a possible version of humanity's future.

smart, funny, intelligent sci-fi movie based on Firefly series( which sadly was cancelled by FOX just after 14 episodes- well that's the FOX way). It shows which way series would evolve to feed tv series fans curiosity but at the same time if You never saw the series You would find Serenity's story full and clever. 100% enjoyable

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars Brilliant 'Firefly' spin-off!

Cracking sci-fi film that takes off from shortly after where the TV series 'Firefly' left off.

As the mystery of River Tam's fractured mind comes to the fore, and the secret she holds that threatens the ruling Alliance, creator Joss Whedon fashions a thrilling adventure yarn with wit, great visuals and terrific dialogue - with a couple of shocks along the way for long time fans.

For £2.99 right now this is simply money you won't regret spending. If you loved 'Firefly' you'll have it already, and even if you haven't and are just browsing - it's so cheap!!! Take a chance, and become a devotee!!

You'll end up buying the 'Firefly' series though, but you'll love that too!

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars A work of sci-fi art.

This film has it all, a gripping story, believable characters, and lots of action. It is in fact a beautiful piece of science fiction which everyone claiming to be a sci-fi fan should have. Buy this film and you won't be disappointed. Also, pick up Firefly, the series that Serenity followed on from.

To ilovescfi: Mate, Joss Whedon never wanted to end Firefly, he loved the series and characters and that's why he wrote Serenity. However Fox had destroyed the series by screening the episodes out of order and leaving weeks between each one. Why they did that is anybodies guess, but as a result it wasn't widely received and Fox cancelled it. Joss spent months trying to get another network to pick it up but thanks to Fox no one would, and so another masterpiece of science fiction ended before its time :(
