Serenity

This film turned me into a true browncoat (firefly obsessive.) An absolute must for anyone with even a passing interest in High Sci-fi. Or westerns. Or Romances. Or anything with a screen. Or taste.

Let me start off by saying, watch the show before watching this film, as it will increase your enjoyment ten fold. Not to say it doesn't stand alone as a Sci-Fi masterpiece, because it does!

Like many people, I am a huge fan of the original TV show "Firefly", which follows Malcolm Reynolds, and his crew aboard the ship Serenity. This picks up where the show (prematurely) ended. Ties up a few loose ends, and provides us with an incredible viewing experience.

One of the biggest strengths of the series, was the great character development, you really cared about all of them, even the less likeable ones! This film has everything, suspense, awesome action, very sad moments, the great humour that the show was known for. Having said that, it's much darker than the show was, but definitely not worse off for it! I was on the edge of my seat practically the whole time...

I won't give anything away, as I would hate to have had this ruined for me before watching. This is straight into my top films, Joss Whedon has proved what a great director he is, and it's criminal that this show was cancelled, however Serenity is a fitting end, and legacy, to one of the best shows of the last 20 years.

Buy it, watch it, love it.

made me think about the matrix at first, but then the story came along as did the chracters (wich are well elaborated) and that made it a whole universe of its own.
being based on a series maybe is an explanation for the good storytelling and the not-all-too-obvious characters. being not aknowledged with the tv-series made no difference as to be able to grasp the story, the background etc.
very good entertainment! highly recommendable.
to be honest: directly after watching the movie i ordered the tv-series as well. because i was curious about it and the hype that surrounded the series.

Serenity is one awesome sci-fi with a brilliant story and a perfect cast, based on Joss Whedons amazing TV series firefly which only ever saw one series before it was cancelled, Serenity basically takes the whole series and gives it closure with a great ending, all the original cast is back and all with a better budget, this is a gem of a film and a must for any fan of cult classic sci-fi movies this is certainly one of them.

It arrived this morning and I have just finisged watching every inch and LOVE IT! Missed the series but am a great Buffy fan so thought it would be worth a look. It's a great movie! Any chance of another? And to dispell all those myths, I am female and 67 and have been a fan of sci-fi for over 50 years. It just keeps getting better.

Leaves you wanting more! the language that they spoke was really odd (i bought the french dvd without english subs) couldnt get them in english but i got the gist from the acting.

Probably the best space based sci-fi movie for an incredibly long time this film picks up after the ending of the 'Firefly' TV series.

Most people will enjoy this sci-fi fans or not and you don't need to watch the series for the film to make sense and be enjoyable either.

Great film, excellent storyline and some great acting together with fantastic effects and atmosphere... A must see!

For me, firefly was simply the greatest tv show ever made, if you havn't had the pleasure of seeing firefly then buy the box set asap, it is quite cheap here on play. unfortunately, FOX is run by numpties and firefly was cancelled before it really got going. The fans however saw sence and demanded more.... this is the result. Serenity is a genuinely funny, entertaining and all round very decent film. The charactors are superb as always look out for Adam Baldwin as Jayne Cobb, perhaps one of the finest charactors ever to hit the big screen. And of course, Nathan Fillion is on superb form as usual. The sets and effects are also superb and the story is very good. It isn't essentially for viewers to have seen firefly to enjoy this film but it certainly helps. Without giving away too much, this film may actually spoil firefly for you which would be a crying shame.

In summary, i can't put into words enough just how good firefly and serenity are. And at £2.99 you really shouldn't be thinking too much about this purchase, just hit buy and enjoy! However i really reccommend that you purchase firefly and watch the entire collection in all of it's glory. Superb stuff, lets hope we see some more in future.

And even better, considering the current £2.99 price! Everything Star Wars wanted to be (I never really bought into the whole Star Wars thing, personally) Serenity is a spin off movie of the Fox Network series 'Firefly.' I think that 'Serenity' is better and funnier than 'Firefly,' but many will disagree. Either way, both can be enjoyed without having seen the other. BUY THIS MOVIE!

Based on the tv series firefly, this film is good, but just does not met the same standard as firefly did. Firefly was brilliant, one of the best tv series i have ever seen, serenity is a good film, and i reccomend people to watch it. If you are planning to also watch the tv series i would watch firefly then serenity, i find it is better that way. Good film over all, especially river's fight sceens. Recommend to firefly fans, and people looking for a good movie.
