Ghost In The Shell - Special Edition: Mamoru Oshii's futuristic animated masterpiece Ghost In The Shell is the perfect film to experience on DVD. Seamlessly merging traditional cel animation with the latest computer graphic imagery, this stunning sci-fi spectacle has broken the boundaries of mainstream animation with its detailed artistic direction and uniquely intelligent story line.
Aided by an esoteric Kenji Kawai score, Ghost In The Shell took the world by storm in 1996, introducing a new wave of Japanese animation through its mesmerzing cinematic expression. A movie that questions our own human existence in the fast-paced world of the information age, this remarkable, award-winning, cyber-tech thriller has gone on to become one of the leading Japanese animation films of all time.
Ghost In The Shell 2 - Innocence: It is the year 2032 and Earth is a world where the few remaining humans coexist with cyborgs, human spirits inhabiting mechanized bodies, and dolls, robots with no human elements whatsoever. A cyborg detective for the government's covert anti-terrorist unit Public Security Section 9, Batou is charged with investigating the bizarre case of a malfunctioning gynoid - a hyper-realistic female robot created specifically for sexual companionship - responsible for slaughtering its owner.
Delving deeper and deeper into the investigation, Batou and his partner, Togusa, are forced to confront violent Yakuza thugs, devious hackers, influential government bureaucrats and powerful corporate criminals. As they move closer to uncovering the mystery, it slowly becomes apparent that the truth behind the crime is far more shocking than anyone dared imagine...
The first ever anime film to be nominated for the Cannes International Film Festival's highly prestigious Palme D'Or, Ghost In The Shell 2: Innocence is a breathtaking technical and visual achievement four years in the making. A work that is as equally groundbreaking as its predecessor, it seamlessly combines 2-D and 3-D CG animation techniques to produce an action-packed, sci-fi fable of a solitary cyborg struggling to retain what's left of his humanity in a world where the human soul is gradually fading into obscurity.
Inspired by the literary works of Phillip K. Dick and the surrealist art of Hans Bellmer, Ghost In The Shell 2: Innocence is a philosophical thrill-ride through the darkest regions of human - and inhuman - nature, combining full-throttle action, cutting-edge animation, and one of the most provocative storylines in recent memory.

Both of these movies are great and visually masterpieces, especially the second movie due to the 3D/2D combination. Very philisophical movies and sometimes hard to understand, but thats a good thing. None the less they are both legendary anime movies.
Simply brilliant

These films are brilliant and must watchs. not for a young audience who would probably get confused very quickly!
You must have full concentration whilst watching these films as they really are demanding on the brain! you will also need to watch them more than once to fully appriciate them, which can be easily done thanks to the brilliant quality of the storys and visuals.
if your looking for action there is enough here to not take attention away from the storys, though if your after tonnes of over the top anime action you may be disappointed, and i recomend another of
Mamoru Oshii's films if you are after this, this film being Appleseed.
although I prefer the orginal, both films are classics in there own rights.
At a price i would happily pay for one of these films this is a brilliant offer and a must have for any anime fan
