Edward Scissorhands (1991): An Avon lady discovers the half-made creation of a mad scientist living in the neighborhood's old abandoned castle. The scientist died leaving the shy boy with scissors for hands. When she attempts to bring him into suburbia his hands, a metaphor for adolescence, make for some awkward and hilarious situatons. An unforgettable contemporary fairy tale, a poignant celebration of a visionary spirit struggling to survive in an unforgiving world.
(Dir. Tim Burton, Cert. PG)
From Hell (2001): Taking its title from the return address on a letter penned by the Ripper, this gripping thriller is about people who are in hell, trying to survive the grimmest circumstances. At the core are five impoverished prostitutes who share a desperate friendship, drawn tighter as their ranks are terrorized by a gruesome murderer. Mary Kelly, Kate Eddowes, Liz Stride, Dark Annie Chapman and Polly exist on the brink, earning a meagre living with their bodies in a society that concurrently dishonours and feeds upon them. Owning virtually nothing of value, they are threatened by a monster that would steal from them their only possession: existence.
(Dir. Albert Hughes & Allen Hughes, Cert. 18)
Before Night Falls (2000): Julian Schnabel (Basquiat) directs this incredible journey through the life and work of the late Cuban poet Reinaldo Arenas. Victimized by a government that banned his books and jailed him for a crime he didn't commit, Reinaldo endured unspeakable persecution in a courageous stand against censorship and oppression. Without a country but not without integrity, he fled to America where he continued to fight for personal expression and produced a stirring body of work.
Featuring a dual performance by Johnny Depp, Before Night Falls is a tribute to the liberating power of art... and one man's undying passion for life.
(Dir. Julian Schnabel, Cert. 15)

I have to say this is a great collection of films, edward scissorhands is brilliantly made with Johnny Depp capturing the character perfectly in this well made Tim Burton gothic film
I think From Hell will probably relate more to the english viewer as it is about Jack the Ripper a olden day serial killer with "good virtues" but its still a great watch for anyone as Johnny Depp once again gives a great performance as the Detective along side Anthony Hopkins
Before Night Falls is in my opinion is different to the other 2 gothic-styled films with a hearty drama which is still worth the watch i would recommend this collection quite easily
also if you find this good i would also recommend other Tim Burton/Johnny Depp productions such as Sleepy Hollow (like From Hell) and the new delightful twist on the Roald Dahls book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory also a great Tim Burton film, Big Fish, which is described as a "Fairy Tale for Adults" and delivers
