John Simm stars as Sam Tyler, a driven and ambitious young detective, determined to keep the streets of 21st Century Manchester safe. But after a near fatal car accident, he wakes up, dazed and confused, in 1973. Has he gone back in time? Is he in a coma? Or has he simply gone insane?
What follows is Sam's 21st century account of 1970s life, where he feels like a fish out of water. He must come to terms with an unfamiliar environment and an archaic CID unit. There, using his modern know-how, he becomes integral to the unit. But he must adapt to their old-fashioned technologies and etiquettes.
Sam works on some of the hardest cases he's ever been involved with. It's a world where witnesses are regularly intimidated, it takes two weeks to process forensics, and his colleagues will nail their suspect whether they have the evidence or not...
Created and written by Mathew Graham, Tony Jordan and Ashley Pharoah (who all worked on Hustle), directed by Bharat Nalluri (Spooks, Hustle), John McKay (Canterbury Tales), John Alexander (Cutting It) and SJ Clarkson (Footballers' Wives).

There is literally no fault with this series. Everything is outstanding, from the plots and actors, to the costume and soundtrack. Philip Glenister is most certainly my favourite TV character of all-time, having produced hilarious one-liners with wit and executing the role brilliantly. A fault can not be found in his outstanding performance. John Simm, who plays the DCI/DI 'sent back in time' again can not be criticized at all. The psychological element of this fantastic series is once again written and performed to perfection, as is the comedic side to the story. The supporting cast are commendable, with Liz White, Dean Andrews and Marshall Lancaster playing Annie Cartwright, Ray Carling and Chris Skelton respectively. This piece of television is utterly unmissable.

A brilliant concept, brilliantly exacuted. This is one of the best cop shows in years that takes all the best ideas from The Sweeney,The Professionals and Back To The Future and turns it on it's head. The result is amazing, being Gripping, very funny, moving and a very dark drama. This is TV at it's best, and with the best drama's coming from America, this show proves that the UK still can stand with the best.
This is superb value, as the show is so watchable.
A must buy!
