This season starts well and just goes from strength to strength. There are enough character changes and new actors brought in to eliminate the déjà vous in previous seasons. The writers don't push the bounds of coincidence and credibility too far, which makes the storyline much more believable than the previous season. Having said that, if you are going to write a single story to occupy 16 hours of Tv, credibility and coincidence are bound to be pushed a bit! Taste will vary, but for me they got it just right. The season grabs you right from the start and keeps you on the edge of your seat all the way through. Once again, superb acting from Sutherland, with strong support from the other actors. Absolutely made for watching back-to-back, so great to have on DVD.
Not the best Season, but still good.

There are some high points in this Season, but unlike most other days in the life of Jack Bauer, this Season revolves solely around the same main plot and it does become a little boring. The high points I mentioned are some awesome set pieces and the return of some old faces. Although it's perhaps the weakest Season in my opinion it is still very good and worth a watch, and if this is the weakest, it just goes to show how good the other Days are.
Excellent from the first minute.

Just finished watching it last night. Gripping series which is every bit as good if not better than its predecessors right from the first episode. Thankfully there was no sign of Kim Bauer and therefore she wasnt continually kidnapped which was a welcome bonus. There was however plenty of action and a good storyline so if you are thinking of buying it , I would certainly say its money well spent.
Excellent

£17.99 for the whole 4th season WOW thats a great deal, this season is brillant and is generally packed with action, compared to the six seasons you can buy now this season is packed with action from the word go, it literally never lets up. As soon as you think things are getting better something even more violent erupts making this season of 24 a must have. Why watch Lost when you can watch this season and get instant gratification every episode and all the answers you need by the end of the season. Plus the acting is top notch, the fx sequences are better, the music is amazing, Kiefer Sutherland is brillant and makes the character of Jack Bauer the main man on TV today. GET IT, its worth it I gurantee. This season is so good that seperate episodes are their own won this season tons of emmys, including episode 5 which really is a must see, won the season 2 emmys in one clean sweep. Dont miss!!!
a return to form

this season is much simpler in terms of storytelling. the main villain is revealed early on, and remains constant unlike previous seasons where they remain in the shadows until the end and there arent really any significant twists.
the simplicity of the story makes it easier to believe and to follow. the terrorist plot is essentially one fairly small terrorist plot, leading onto another, which leads onto another and so on. in a way it gets tiring, compared to the complexity of previous plots, but i liked this about this season as it gives the characters space to breathe and develop. Carlos Bernard as Tony Almeida shines in this season, as does Reiko Ayleswoth as Michelle Dessler. Curtis Manning is a worthy new character while Chloe's character gets better and better. late on, Gregory Itzin appears as Charles Logan, and despite being a late addition to the story, is immense, setting up his character nicely for season 5.
this is a real return to form, and after the overly ambitious and complex mess of season 3, this season goes to show that simple stories can often be much better than elaborate ones.
good season but only better than season 2....

This is a much better season than season 2 with better plot twists and charectorisation and less cliches and racial stereotyping. Really enjoyed it.
Solid entry in the 24 timeline

I want to start, predictably enough I suppose, by comparing season 4 to the seasons that went before it, as I feel that it is unfairly maligned by many; the criticisms generally levelled at series 4 tend to be that it has overly predictable plot twists, a weak storyline and is generally a bit tired, and yet these are the criticisms I would aim at season 3. For my money season 4 is a massive return to form after the weak season that preceded it; just compare the opening episodes. Series 3: nothing much happens, we meet the major players but it's all a bit pedestrian, and in fact nothing really kicks off until about 7 or 8 episodes in. Series 4: as per usual the initial crisis is just the tiniest tip of the iceberg, but it's action-packed and puts you right on the edge of your seat just like the first two seasons did. So while I wouldn't for a minute suggest that series 4 could rival the amazing first two seasons, it's 16 or so hours' worth of top quality tv.
Turning to the series itself, it's obviously difficult to talk plot without giving anything major away, so I shall confine myself to saying that they have (in my book anyway) made good decisions in terms of which well-known characters to bring back and which to cut out of the story, most of the new characters are good additions, and they've also had some good ideas in terms of how to develop things in the 18 months between seasons 3 and 4.
The central plot is the usual crusade against terrorists (I don't know why people complain that Jack's always up against the same old terrorist types - he does work at a place called the Counter TERRORIST Unit, people), but this series' bad guy, Marwan, is far smarter than those who have preceded him (actually Stephen Saunders was pretty smart too I suppose), and the CTU gang have a much harder time than usual in foiling his plans.
I would also say that series 4 is top of the pile thus far for moments of jump-out-of-your-seat-and-cheer action set-pieces, with much more gunplay than usual (some people may disagree, and I must admit I haven't seen 1 or 2 in about a year but I don't remember this much all-out action from any other season). There's one particular moment, just before the end of episode 7, that had me grinning from ear to ear, naturally I don't want to elaborate too much but just look out for it.
Overall, as I said near the beginning this isn't vintage 24 in the vein of series 1 or 2, but it's a damn sight better than the sluggish series 3, and as with any series of 24, still leagues ahead of any other tv series out there (apart from Firefly, but that's another story). Not to mention the fact that without the ending of season 4 the barnstorming brilliance of series 5 would not be possible - just as good as seasons 1 and 2 but I'd better leave it at that or I'll end up reviewing that here too.
Continuing the legacy of excellence and intensity

Jack Bauer no longer of CTU? You look at it and think that the fundamental backbone of Bauer is gone but he's still there when "it" hits the fan and thank god he is.
The series whilst not as good as series three still surpasses expectations. I always find myself scared that as a series seasons and continues to develop it risks loing sight of its past and of the foundations on which it was built.
The continuing storylines linking back to previosu series are still there and loveable characters of old continue to rekindle your memories to the earlier series. Of course when the storyline is looked at the world "nuclear" appears again. Many reviews on the devloping 24 phenomenon stated that it risks being repetative however even though the subject matter of the threat has been utilised in earlier series it i still done in a way that makes it different.
There is so much on offer in this series and when the end comes it comes with a bang. The intensity of the series remains throughout with the storyline that continues to offer the expected blind leads, treachories and character developments of new and old.
Some of the characters' fates are not explained and it feels that perhaps they needed half an hour more but in the end the foundation characters get their just deserts and explanations.
The ending of series four is by far and away the best so far, the feeling it gives you leaves you feeling torn and confused. Watching it you will feel the issues that Bauer faces. The magic of 24 is the ability to draw the viewer into the hectic and dangerous world of Jack Bauer that in a way makes you feel like a member of the cast.
It is filmed insuch a way as to increase the connection between us and them making us love and hate all characters in turn, developing your groups of likes and dislikes, those you would help and those you wouldn't giv the time of day to.
Four stars because it cannot surpass series three but still it does what it says on the tin, gives you 24 hours of hell, mayhem, fear and an intense rush.
It never falters and when the last clock appears on the screen and the last "beep" echoes into the credits I guarantee you will still want more...
It Just Keeps on getting better and better!!

24 is one of those series that just keeps going from strength to strength, season 1 just set the scene, season 2 developed some of the key characters, season 3 introduced new characters and better more gripping storylines and season 4 just blew me away with it's shocking ending in the last episode... This is by far the best season of 24 that i have watched so far everything is bigger and better, the characters are more developed, the action sequences are bigger, that bad guys just get better and the storylines of episode after episode just get better and better... all i can say is that when i watch season 5 it better be just as good...
Best Series Yet!

Just as i thought all three of the first series would be impossible to follow, the fourth delivers more drama and cliffhanging twists that will keep you up all night watching! Outstanding!
