There has never been a greater telling of the famous love story between King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. Amidst sumptuous sets and costumes are two of the finest actors ever known to grace the silver screen. Richard Burton, as magnificent as ever, gives arguably one of his best performances as King Henry VIII. However the Canadian actress Genevieve Bujold steals the show with an outstanding performance as Anne Boleyn which really launched her film career. It is a pity that she is so underrated and largely unknown. Both leads were Oscar-nominated for their performances with Bujold receiving a Golden Globe as Best Actress in a Drama. They were truly magnificent and supported by a sterling cast which includes Irene Pappas, another great underrated actress who portrays Catherine of Aragorn excellently and should've received an Oscar nomination as Best Supporting Actress, and Anthony Quayle as Cardinal Wolsey, for which he was Oscar-nominated in the Supporting category. This film is outstanding and very accurate as far as history is concerned. A definite must-see for history fans and people who appreciate talent and great acting. Without a doubt Genevieve Bujold is Anne Boleyn and God forbid anyone who should try to remake this movie and fill her shoes. Remarkable!

An interesting film version of a small segment of the life of King Henry VIII, Richard Burton is cast against type as the King, not perhaps the immediate choice for the role, but a part that he pulls off very successfully which earned him an Academy Award Nomination. all performances are very good to be honest and it is a fine film in the genre of historic England. What lets it down is the fact that there it is mediocre. It achieves what it set out to do as countless other period dramas have done, but it delivers no more. Take the dialogue from this film and you could drop it into almost any other period film that you like and it would not look out of place. A Man For All Seasons this is not, but nevertheless it is not a film that should just be ignored. Certainly worth watching for any fan of the period as it is excellently executed (to excuse a pun).
