A WWII story so deranged it could only come from Quentin Tarantino! Mixing star turns from the likes of Brad Pitt with sweeping vistas and hyperkinetic, cartoonish violence, Inglourious Basterds is a loving ode to spaghetti westerns and trashy movies of yesteryear from a master filmmaker.

Inglourious Basterds begins in German-occupied France, where Shoshanna Dreyfus (Mélanie Laurent) witnesses the execution of her family at the hand of Nazi Colonel Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz). Shosanna narrowly escapes and flees to Paris, where she forges a new identity as the owner and operator of a cinema.

Elsewhere in Europe, Lieutenant Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) organizes a group of Jewish soldiers to engage in targeted acts of retribution. Known to their enemy as "The Basterds," Raine's squad joins German actress and undercover agent Bridget Von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger) on a mission to take down the leaders of The Third Reich. Fates converge under a cinema marquee, where Shosanna is poised to carry out a revenge plan of her own...

Winner of the BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor: Christoph Waltz.

Has nothing to say and spends too long saying it.

It's no exaggeration to say that you could easily chop an hour and a half out of this film and still be left with an understandable storyline. There is so much fat on this film that it's like watching Sumo Wrestling through glasses made of lard. The dialogue just goes on and on and on and ironically, nothing is ever said that's worthwhile.

The film completely fails to have a "point". It's not entertaining, it's not fodder, it doesn't explore any themes and it's not funny. When you remove the "Tarantino" brand from this you realise that you have nothing, absolutely nothing.

I know this review will be hated by the Tarantino faithful but trust me avoid it. Avoid it like the plague.

Just saw this on a Region 1 import and i thought it was quite a good film.
It was a interesting take on a second world war film by the excellent Quentin Tarantino the film is very different and quite unique to other war films but shot in the usual Tarantino way.
Brad Pitt was suprisingly good has the leader of the Basterds the film moved at a good pace and it kept me interested until the very end.
I would recomended this film to any Tarantino fan and also to anyone who enjoys films that are that little bit different to the normal run of the mill film.

Excellent - Tarantino is the Real Deal

Quentin Tarintino proves with this movie that he is a true Film Making genius, not just wannabe hack who got lucky with a couple of movies.
The way the stories are told in this movie and the tension in some of the scenes just cant be faked.
A few of the scenes were so tense, I felt I almost needed to pause the film just so I could prepare for the inevitable.
Ther are long scenes of cat and mouse dialogue in the film, but they are so well written, that you become totally engrossed.
My only niggle is, that I am not sure how some of the more suspenseful scenes will hold up under repeat viewings.
The acting is Exceptional by all involved.
Highly recommended

 Simply Brilliant...

Inglourious Basterds is possibly Tarantino's greatest film to date.
Each character is carefully developed, and with Colonel Hans Landa (a fantastic Christoph Waltz), we have perhaps the best film villain of recent years. Brad Pitt's Lt. Raine is a very entertaining watch, and Melanie Laurent is incredible as Shosanna Dreyfus - Tarantino always writes strong female characters into his films, and Dreyfus is certainly no weakling.
QT racks up the tension in this film, with long, brilliantly written, dialogue scenes - where violence ends up being the only way to release any of the tension on screen. The violence is typical Tarantino; it's bloody, brutal, but as ever over-the-top and darkly comical (the film's finale particularly illustrates this).
The criticism of this film not being historically accurate is a slightly pointless one, as you don't watch any Quentin Tarantino film expecting a history lesson... this is a 'What if?' film where a completely fictional set of events just happens to be set during World War 2.
This is worth a watch if you love your films to be a bit different, and as eccentric as its director.

 Unglourious rubbish

As a huge war movie fan and listening to all the great hype it was given i decided to go to the cinema, what a let down, it was also totally historically inaccurate, the acting was atrocious and they portrayed the Third Reich as a bunch of bungling idiots which i think is an insult to the people that gave their lives fighting against them but this is only my opinion and furthermore the one star rating ive given was required ,if id had my way it wouldnt have got that.
