Love is a force of nature.

From Academy Award-winning director Ang Lee, comes an epic American love story, Brokeback Mountain; the winner of the Golden Lion Award for Best Picture at the 2005 Venice Film Festival, winner of four Golden Globes and winner of three Oscars (Best Director for Ang Lee, Best Score for Gustavo Santaolalla and Best Adapted Screenplay for Diana Ossana & Larry McMutry)!

The film is based on the short story by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Annie Proulx, adapted by Diana Ossana and the great Larry McMurtry (scribe and author of The Last Picture Show).

Set against the sweeping vistas of Wyoming and Texas, the film tells the story of two young men - a ranch-hand and a rodeo cowboy - who meet in the summer of 1963 and unexpectedly forge a lifelong connection; one whose complications, joys and tragedies provide a testament to the endurance and power of love.

Forget all the unnecessary hype about this being 'the gay cowboy movie' Brokeback Mountain offers so much more than that, and provides further proof that Ang Lee can create a masterpiece in virtually every genre he approaches. Gyllenhall and Ledger give honest, mature performances as the two men who find a true connection between each other and are forced to deny their true feelings for each other so as to 'fit in' to society. Beautifully shot and scored and guaranteed to touch the hardest of hearts 'Brokeback Mountain' rises above the controversy to emerge a film worth watching. A true, heartfelt classic of the genre...

 Heath Ledger's finest hour

" The gay cowboy movie " those are the words that have haunted this movie ever since it's release and the reason so many people overlook this excellent film.
I have to admit that i was one of those people even though i purchased this on dvd some time ago i have only recently viewed it and have to say this is now one of my top ten favourite films.
Superlative is the only word to describe every part of this film, the story, the direction, the music and especially the acting from the two leads in what is a heartbreaking tale of a forbidden love which will make even the toughest get a lump in their throat.
As i said the acting is sublime but this is easily Heath Ledger's film
so much so that at times no words need to be spoken just the raw emotion on his face and in his eyes tells you everything you need to know, this as it says in my title is Heath Ledger's finest hour and yes that also includes his portrayal of the Joker, it only goes to highlight what a huge talent has been lost to us all .

 A Cinema Classic

Two men meet during one summer, forge a connection and over the years struggle to cope with their love for each other. Set in rural America during a period and in a society where being gay was very much a taboo subject, the story unfolds in a captivating and dramatic way. Jake Gyllenhaal and most of all Heath Ledger give very subtle, realistic and beautiful performances. The stunning scenery of Wyoming add to the film's grandeur and beauty. This has to be one of the best films I have ever seen. A truly defining moment in cinema history. A timeless classic.

I think this film is brill!! it really shows that you dont have to have a man and a woman to play in a romantic film. The whole film worked really well and i think it shows alot of people that homophobia should all be in the past. Good film i would advise it to anyone.

 Heartbreaking

1963 Wyoming and two sheepherders spending a summer up a mountain unexpectedly fall in love. That they dare not reveal to anyone what took place on Brokeback Mountain is a given; how it tears up their empty lives is where this exceptional film's power lies. In a deliberately lean, spare and unsentimental style, Lee cuts right to the heart of his story - and it's a heart that is deprived of the love it needs to flourish. Some extraordinary performances dominate: Williams as the doe-like wife who comes to realise that her husband has little love for her, and Gyllenhaal as the more overt and optimistic of the two men, who slowly has that hope driven from him. But it's Ledger's devastating portrayal of a man terrified to admit even to himself how he feels until it's way too late that you remember. There's something about "Brokeback Mountain" that makes it linger in the mind for days afterwards.
