Review

Beset by nightmares that leave his scar hurting more than usual, Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) is all too happy to escape his disturbing dreams by attending the Quidditch World Cup with his friends Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson). But something sinister ignites the skies at the Quidditch campsite; the Dark Mark, the sign of the evil Lord Voldemort. It's conjured by his followers, the Death Eaters, who haven't dared to appear in public since Voldemort was last seen thirteen years ago - the night he murdered Harry's parents.

Harry longs to get back inside the safe walls of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where Professor Dumbledore (Michael Gambon) can protect him. But things are going to be a little different this year. Dumbledore announces that Hogwarts will host the Triwizard Tournament, one of the most exciting and dangerous of the wizarding community's magical competitions. One champion will be selected from each of the three largest and most prestigious wizarding schools to compete in a series of life-threatening tasks in pursuit of winning the coveted Triwizard Cup...

Simply brilliant magical adventure. It has plenty of action as Harry was mysteriously entered into the tri wizards cup and must compete. Having to face a dragon, a swim in a fresh water lake and a daunting maze Harry becomes the youngest tri wizard champion ever. Lord Voldemort makes his long awaited return in this film and with Harrys blood in his veins he is stronger than ever. Enjoy

Firstly let me say I have not read the books. This is the first Potter film I actually engaged with. I think the acting lessons might actually be having some sort of impact. I loved David Tennant's lil role - that was something I didn't expect. Miranda Richardson and alan rickman were both on top form. It really is the cast that keeps me coming back to these movies. That, and my friends HAVE read the books and are completely in love with them. You should have seen them swooning over Cedric.

There seemed to be a lot of material to get in to the run time but it flowed quite well.

I laughed so loudly at ron telling harry to 'P*ss off'. I was in the cinema at the time...luckily a few other people chuckled too.

Customer rating: 3 out of 5 stars An average film poorly adapted from a great book

After the first three Harry Potter movies, this is a bit of a let-down. With the book being so long it was obvious that a lot would have to go but too much of the wrong stuff went. Harry, Ron and Hermione are all teenagers now and thus, in the normal way of teenagers, they're obsessed with sex but so what? This is supposed to be a magical adventure movie, not a half-baked love story!

Vital chunks of the basic plot are missing, not least the dirty secret that Barty Crouch tries so hard to hide but ultimately fails - and what happened to Winky the house elf? I've given it three stars because it's still worth watching but it could, and should, have been so much better!
