Tom Baker returns as the Doctor in this his fourth story Genesis Of The Daleks. The Doctor re-visits the war-torn planet of Skaro - on a mission from the Time Lords themselves. Their mission is to put a halt to mad scientist Davros' plan to mutate aliens into a breed of killing machines - later to be known as Daleks - and in doing so alter the course of history!

  • Commentary with Tom Baker, Elisabeth Sladen, Peter Miles (Nyder) and director David Maloney
  • Genesis of a Classic - cast and crew recall working on the story in this specially shot documentary
  • The Dalek Tapes - new documentary narrated by Terry Molloy (who plays Davros in other Doctor Who stories), that tells the story of the Doctor's most iconic villain, including rare footage from programmes such as Blue Peter
  • Blue Peter - a March 1975 item looking at a collection of Doctor Who models
  • Doctor Who 1976 Annual as a PDF
  • Radio Times Billings
  • Photo Gallery
  • Subtitle production notes

this 6 part adventure is often rated by fans as the best original series story. its more about the Daleks creator Davros than the Daleks themselves but actor Michael Wisher is so brilliant in the role that you hardly notice the metal meanies have been sidelined for much of the story

there are a few plotholes and the story drags a bit in the middle but its too good for any of that to really matter

an absolute classic - even with the giant clams!

the good one, as Tom gets to make his wobblinesses acquaintance twice during his long run, but this is the one with the wires scene.

This is a very rare moment in the Who's history where a story actually makes some pretty good sense, and there are some real triumphs of dialogue and weighty ideas. Davros is very quotable and watchable throughout, and the whole concept of the Daleks genesis is just a really nice one, even if said Daleks are at their most tatty, which makes no sense considering they're mean to be newly created, but that's the BBC budget for you! Davros however looks great!

The extras are excellent and befitting for such a classic Who story and the commentary is wonderful!

Highly recommended for all you fans out there!

 A must have.....

This is a truely amazing story for it's time. Well scripted and cast. A very dark tale of the very beginings of the Daleks. Micheal Wisher's portrayal of Davros is electrifying he almost steals the show, were it not for the very strong perfomances from the rest of the cast. Tom Baker is at his very best in this story. A must have!
