The Reader

I throughly enjoyed this film, Kate Winslet plays a german who can't read and meets a young lad who she falls for. It's a little bit slow to get going but had me gripped by the end. For the price it's brilliant and such a worthwhile watch.

I suppose the Oscar prompted me buy this film. Well, no regrets. Winslet's characterisation is superb. I think there was a tad too much sex which tends to diminish the true class of this excellent film. The story line is brilliant and in spite of the crimes the heroin commits, you cannot help but harbour a certain amount of sympathy and understanding.

This film was fantastic I was gripped from the beginning esp. the first hour and the performance that Kate Winslet gave, she def. deserved the Oscar, moving and hard not to sympathise even after the heinous crimes she comitted, alot of sex scenes which may put some people off, but is a truly compelling watch, not to be missed.

This wasnt quite what I had expected! I had been told it was a fanastic film so I expected to be a lot more gripped by it! It was a good story & Kate Winslet was very good but it was a bit slow & I lost interest several times. It is good to watch, but I wouldnt bother buying it!

This is a wonderfully thought provoking film in which, Kate Winslet delivers a phenomenal performance as a woman embroiled in a love affair with a young boy. The films takes a darker twist when she becomes the subject of nazi war criminal trials following the Second World War. Kate Winslet's performance aside it is easy to become immersed in the rich storyline and as a result it becomes a very enjoyable all be it emotional film to watch.

Made me cry.... Even the hubby liked it!.

As others have said you can see why Kate Winslet got an oscar for her performance, and I'm glad I've seen the film, but I wouldn't buy it. The story is quite slow and most of the first half involves a lot of sex and reading and not much else. However, it did pick up a bit once the trial started, but the ending left me wanting something more...felt a bit abrupt. Overall, I'd say rent it, partly just to see what all the fuss is about and say you've seen it, but I wouldn't recommend it as a DVD to buy.

An amazing film once you get past the weirdness of the age gap between the two main characters. Though maybe not a film to watch if your looking for a happy ending. Other then that i don't see why anyone would dislike it. Very good acting and good plot, its convinced me to read the book. Definitely worth a watch.

This is a very good film. I don't agree with other reviewers who say the film is boring because it is slow paced. The style of the film suits the story and is supposed to not have full on action all the time. The acting was very good. I have not read the book though but judging it just as a film, excellent.
