Danny Dyer (The Business, Football Factory) and Tamer Hassan (Cass, The Business) return to explosive, brutal and downright bloody marvellous form in this year's most engrossing British gangster movie. If The Business had you on the edge of your seat, City Rats will kick you right off it and leave you in a bloody mess on the floor begging for mercy!

Welcome to the world of the City Rats where troubled souls collide to reveal a dark and twisted side of London. Small-time crook Pete (Danny Dyer) tries to get back on the straight-and-narrow after a stint behind bars but quickly finds his past catches up with him.

Stalked by a timid old lady looking for her son, Pete begins to revisit the dark world of his violent drug days he thought he had left behind. Caught in the crazy London underworld Pete finds himself mixed up with dodgy dealings, guns, murder and prostitution in his deadly attempts to put the past behind him once and for all.

 Intelligent British Drama

One of the best British movies made to date. Great characterisation and a truly inspiring script. Dyer, Hassan and Panthaki give performances very different from what we've seen from them before. This is an intelligent movie and a humanist movie. London looks great but these occupants are living out dark philosophies with one common denominator - scrape beneath their surfaces, and you find loneliness and a want for love. I highly recommend this movie - the sleeve comments on a "Pulp Fiction style blend" - I disagree, this movie is darker, more beautiful and about the human soul.

Great For People Who Have Something Between the Ears!

Despite the majority of people giving this film a hard time it is actually very good. Most peoples problem straight away is that everyone is basing it on the fact that its not a gangster film and that Danny Dyer and Tammer Hassan are not in it together and that its nothing like The Business (my favourite film by far!) . But its not supposed to be, its actually a very deep story about several individual people all with different issues in there lives, it takes a little bit to get going but once it does it hooks you in and you want to watch it to the end, and the ending is very good because it turns out everything is linked together like a big jigsaw puzzle so please ignore the bad reviews don't put it in your dvd player expecting it to be anything like The Business and you will be fine and more than likely enjoy this film very much. This film to me actually showed how good Danny Dyer and Tammer Hassan are as actors and showed there strengths of acting in a completely different role to what your used to seeing them in. Enjoy!

 This a Film Noir

A very clever and intertwined story which needs your full attention for the sting in the tail. Not a gangster movie at all but a step away from the norm that Dyer and Hassan usually star in. A film to make you think. Top marks. (However I am aged 60 and can use my brain)

 NOT a gangster movie..

A lot of people hate this film because it isn't your typical Danny Dyer movie. (The Business) This is in fact actually totally the opposite, instead it is a very dark, emotional and miserable film. Watch the film without the expectation of it being a hard hitting gangster flick and watch it for what it actually is. Dyer and Hassan put in good all round performances and the story is fairly strong.

Well worth a watch if you can let go of your Danny Dyer expectations.

 Not a British Gangster Flick!

Top 100  Reviewer Top 100 DVD Reviewer

Danny Dyer and Tamer Hassan the boys who were in the The Business, and to top it all off a black & white DVD sleeve displaying Danny Dyer wielding a gun in 3 pictures. Now what would you expect from this, "oh just another typical British Gangster Flick, RocknRolla, Snatch, The Business etc... Nothing New!"
City Rats is far from a gangster flick and in actuality has very little of a gangster/crime element.
The movie is based around a number of characters whose lives all connect through 4 seperate and very different stories. Each of the stories has it's own special element and uniqueness which'll keep you watching from start to finish. The director does a good job in given the movie a very gritty and urban feeling which helps take you deeper into the minds of the characters.
City Rats is a movie about the bottom of the barrel people who are searching for salvation and redemption but have no idea where or how to find it.

Overall: City Rats is a movie which will surprise most people, don't go into it expecting a guns blazing coke selling gangster flick as you're not going to get one. My only con about this movie is the timing, although it's not a long movie at times it feels like it's dragging along a little but in the end you'll still come out feeling entertained.
City Rats is a very intelligent and well crafted piece of cinema and well worth a watch for people who don't mind thinking whilst watching.
