Not a gangster film but still very good

This isn't the typical Dyer/Hassan gangster film it advertises, it's dark and moody and quite enthralling and the acting is very good however if you are after a Business/Footbal Factory type of film it's not for you, hence some of the bad reviews, but still I thoroughly enjoyed it and would definitely watch it again.

Without doubt one of the worst films of all time

One of the most boring and dreadful films I've ever watched. Absolutely no action, no plot, no storyline and the acting is terrible. Nothing happens at all. Stay well away, trust me.

  NOT a gangster movie..

A lot of people hate this film because it isn't your typical Danny Dyer movie. (The Business) This is in fact actually totally the opposite, instead it is a very dark, emotional and miserable film. Watch the film without the expectation of it being a hard hitting gangster flick and watch it for what it actually is. Dyer and Hassan put in good all round performances and the story is fairly strong.

Well worth a watch if you can let go of your Danny Dyer expectations.

dyer and hassan showing they can act!!!.

first off i have to say, the marketing was very misleading for this film, making it seem like another football factory/the business type film, when its far from that and to top it off they then compare it to pulp fiction why? It has no comparisons whatsoever to pulp, in fact its nowhere near any of the 3 films mentioned and doesnt even come close!!! What i would say its a very well made, slow burner, ensemble method piece. With a great cast, and good acting from all involved, mainly dyer and hassan, who show they have a good acting range for a change, instead of there usual typecast hard geezer feck this feck that roles. which lets be honest tends to get a little boring, since its usually the same old same old from both, but both are great in this for acting reasons, and deserved to be applauded, as do the other actors, and if like me, you want to see dyer and hassan do something different for a change, i.e act a bit, aswell as a good redemption type storyline, then purchase this its cheaper than a rental to buy, and will leave you thinking why doesnt the leads get better acting gigs cause they can act!!!.

  Excellent Sleeping Material!

This is the most boring film of all time, I managed to sit through it all (some how) and yet if you asked me what the film was about I wouldnt be able to answer you! Anyone expecting something similar to Football Factory like i was (due to the fact Danny Dyer and Tamer Hassan are both in this film) will be hugely dissapointed!

  Waste of Money

Well I managed to sit through this film, but it was a struggle. Apart from being very depressing the film just dragged on. I really wouldn't waste your time with this one unless you want to make yourself feel down.

  Not a British Gangster Flick!

Danny Dyer and Tamer Hassan the boys who were in the The Business, and to top it all off a black & white DVD sleeve displaying Danny Dyer wielding a gun in 3 pictures. Now what would you expect from this, "oh just another typical British Gangster Flick, RocknRolla, Snatch, The Business etc... Nothing New!"
City Rats is far from a gangster flick and in actuality has very little of a gangster/crime element.
The movie is based around a number of characters whose lives all connect through 4 seperate and very different stories. Each of the stories has it's own special element and uniqueness which'll keep you watching from start to finish. The director does a good job in given the movie a very gritty and urban feeling which helps take you deeper into the minds of the characters.
City Rats is a movie about the bottom of the barrel people who are searching for salvation and redemption but have no idea where or how to find it.

Overall: City Rats is a movie which will surprise most people, don't go into it expecting a guns blazing coke selling gangster flick as you're not going to get one. My only con about this movie is the timing, although it's not a long movie at times it feels like it's dragging along a little but in the end you'll still come out feeling entertained.
City Rats is a very intelligent and well crafted piece of cinema and well worth a watch for people who don't mind thinking whilst watching.

Firstly, Danny Dyer is a one trick pony with no range. He plays himself in every film. That aside, this is like the film Crash in that the character's stories cross paths with each other. The result? A machete-like assault on the senses. I was very impressed and concrete proof that you don't need a big budget to make a thought provoking film. The vacuumheads may disagree? Vive le difference eh? If we all liked the same things wouldn't it be a boring place?!
