When a young girl mysteriously disappears, Police Sergeant Howie (Edward Woodward) travels to a remote island to investigate. But this pastoral community, led by the strange Lord Summerisle (a brilliant performance by the legendary Christopher Lee), is not what it seems as the devout Christian detective soon uncovers a secret society of wanton lust and pagan blasphemy. Can Howie now stop the cult's ultimate sacrifice before he himself comes face to face with the horror of The Wicker Man?

This film is completely overrated. People go on about it being the best British Horror film ever and that it is a cult classic. It was boring and predictable and the character Sgt Howie was, well pathetic. He wasn't a real policeman, he didn't have a clue how to carry out an investigation. He was weak and blinded by faith, which along with his stupidity got him into a whole world of trouble. A totally flawed film, with no excitement or redeeming qualities in the plot at all. It had potential, when you hear the premise and Edward Woodward is a great actor. But all in all you will waste an hour and a half of your life if you watch this. Don't bother.

 Wick-ed film...

This film quite rightly deserves it's place in british cinema history not only for the enigmatic storyline which is in fact based on a real community way of life but the sheer acting brilliance of Lee & woodward plus great support from other well known faces,
An exceptional film & the remake starring nicolas cage is not a patch on this cult original
