Bringing the Tony Award Winning musical on to the big screen.

New York, 1959. Max Bialystock was once the king of Broadway, but now all his shows close on opening night. Things turn around when he's visited by the neurotic accountant Leo Bloom, who proposes a scheme tailor-made for producers who can only make flops: raise far more money than you need, then make sure the show is despised. No one will be interested in it, so you can pocket the surplus. To this end, they produce a musical called Springtime for Hitler written by escaped Nazi Franz Liebken. Then they get the insanely flamboyant Roger De Bris to direct. Finally, they hire as a lead actress the loopy Swedish bombshell Ulla (whose last name has over 15 syllables). As opening night draws near, what can go wrong? Well, there's no accounting for taste...

This musical is funny and heartwarming. Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick and Will Ferrel are all awesome. I especially like how WF talks to his pigeons. Its a good watch but I wouldn't buy it just because I don't think I'd watch it over and over. Worth seeing though, especially if you're a musical buff.

Musicals are hard to transfer to the silver screen but The Producers pulls it off, It was purposely made to look like it was shot on a sound stage to give it that atmospheric look. I saw the stage musical 5 times and have performed songs from this musical so I'd like to think I know how the show should look and sound, Nathan Lane is fantastic pouring so much energy into his performance as do the rest of the cast. The musical numbers are brilliant especially "I wanna be a Producer" and Betrayed".
It's a shame that "The King of Broadway" and "Where did we go Right?" songs where cut, but this was obviously due to running time issues. All in all The Producers is a fantastic film. BUY IT! Also check out the original 1968 version.
