Los Angeles' most controversial and corrupt cops are back one last time on 8 June 2009 when Sony Pictures Home Entertainment debuts The Shield Season Seven: The Final Act on DVD. The final season of this gritty, hard-hitting police drama is loaded with exclusive bonus features, including commentary on every episode, plus 51 deleted scenes with optional commentary by creator Shawn Ryan and two all-new featurettes looking at shooting the final season and on being on set for the last episode. The Shield Season Seven: The Final Act will be released as a four-disc collection containing all 13 episodes.

The Shield follows a tough crime-infested L.A. police precinct and its elite team of cops who are undeniably effective when it comes to cracking tough cases, whilst being equally as 'dirty' to get results. The show was created and written by Shawn Ryan (TV's "The Unit") and executive produced by Ryan, Kurt Sutter, Charles Eglee, Adam Fierro and Kevin Cremin. Emmy® and Golden Globe® winner Michael Chiklis (Fantastic Four) stars as rogue Detective Vic Mackey, who administers his own brand of justice as he tries to keep balance of power in the criminal hierarchy of L.A.'s seedy Farmington Division. Mackey and his team - which includes Emmy® nominee CCH Pounder (TV's "ER"), David Marciano (Lethal Weapon 2), Benito Martinez (Million Dollar Baby), Walton Goggins (The Bourne Identity), Jay Karnes (The Next Best Thing), Catherine Dent (Someone Like You) and Michael Jace (Forrest Gump) - write the rules as they go along.

Vic faces threats from all directions in this hard-hitting final season: the damaged protégé Detective Shane Vendrell, the honourable Captain Claudette Wyms intent on cleaning up the force and the Mob who have 'greenlit' (marked for death) him and his family. Can Vic survive? All will be revealed!

Fantastic. A fitting end to the best cop show on TV.

Season 7 brings The Shield to an end, and what a way to go. The main plot lines from the entire 7 series are brought to logical and yet often surprising and moving ends, and even little threads from previous series are picked up on and dealt with. Yes, there are a couple of minor loose threads at the end of 7, but it is implied how they will develop. And it would have felt too forced and unnatural had they wound them all up.

Excellent writing and acting make this the best cop show on TV. Like someone has already mentioned, it isn't a procedural show like The Wire and it is all the better for that - it is faster paced and, in my opinion, more entertaining. But don't get thinking that it is any less complex, because there's a whole lot goes on...it is a tale of friendship, betrayal, corruption, greed, and a tragedy in a way too. Lots of surprises, but to get the most of The Shield, you really do need to watch them all from Series 1 all the way to the grand finale.

 Exceptional tv show!

The entire 7 seasons of The Shield can be looked at as one long movie. Great crime drama story-telling, brilliantly shot and stunning actor performances. For me this is the perfect finale to a brilliant show. Essential viewing!

The best finale to any tv series

I've been lucky enough to watch the final 13 episodes via the 'States' and I wasnt disappointed, in fact, this final season 7 made the series for me become on a par with both The Sopranos and The Wire. The finale episode (and the penultimate episode 12) are superbly written, amazingly acted (Chiklas has never been better and thats saying something!), tragic, emotional, violent and best of all a fitting end for all concerned. Will Vic, Shane and Ronnie pay for their previous 6seasons of sins? I promise you'll find out for sure in this season. Simply brilliant.

Well...I have to say, I am gutted that the greatest cop drama EVER has come to an end...however, I realise that it had to end now or it would go into overkill. I have watched the Shield from day 1 and loved every minute of it......it is without a doubt up there with The Sopranos, The Wire & Deadwood...if you have never watched the Shield and enjoy the other titles I mentioned then you will love the shield....gritty, edgy, tense and seriously explosive...it is filmed in such a way that you feel like you are actually in Farmington rather than watching it on your T.V. The charechters are so well developed, the script is fantastic and the twists and turns will keep you hooked from start to finish! 11/10...5 Stars....100%....What a fantastic end to a fantastic series.

Can;t wait to see what Shawn Ryan comes up with next.

 awesome final season

The shield has always been the most consistent, thrilling cop show on television because it has more to it than being a procedural cop show- it isn't that. This season has ended the complex stories and subplots into a very well-paced and put together final two episodes. Well scripted, brilliantly acted by particularly Chiklis as Mackey and Goggins as Shane Vendrell. Is it one of the best television shows this decade? Yes, it is. Terrific with a thoughtful and tense ending.
