  Brilliant And Complete Revenge Thriller...

| | See all SpikeyShaw488's reviews (9)

This film hits you hard straight out of the blocks and it shows how good Mel Gibson is as an actor.

After watching his daughter murdered infront of his eyes, he goes on a one-man assault, desperately trying to track down his daughter's killer. It is very gritty and is set amidst a very grey and bleak city of Boston (which I think adds to the loneliness of Gibson's character).

Ray Winstone plays a great, yet confusing, role as a shady agent and you never really know whose side he is on. Edge Of Darkness is a stripped-back and raw thriller made for the art of revenge.

Well paced great action thriller! Well done Mel!!

This film started off with a completly different storyline than expected. It jumped right in there within the first 5-10 minutes, to pull off into a complete different tangent and explore a very unexpected storyline. Which enhanced the film twofold.
I really enjoyed this, Mel has had some issues lately through the press, but what ever that may be, in my eyes he has redeemed himself with this fantastic movie.
Throughly enjoyed this well paced action/thriller recommend 4/5!!

Main reason I got this was because Mel Gibson was starring in a lead role in a film since 2002 (Signs).
The film is a decent little thriller, not Great by any means. The main highlight is watching Mel Gibson is full on Vengance mode.
The guy just oozes star quality even in a buttoned down role like this.
Ray Winstone was ok in a role originally meant for Robert de Niro. Glad De Niro didn't do it, as it seemed a very small and strange role.
Average Movie, that Mel Gibson fans will defo enjoy

  Gibson's back!

I really enjoyed this film. It's dark, cool and builds tension excellently. One of the reviewers here gave it 1* because there's not much action. To be honest I feel that that's a misunderstanding of the film. This is a dark, film noir, type thriller with plenty of emotion and tension building. It's brilliant

what can i say except zzzzzzzzzzzzz.
not much happens, if your looking for action look elsewhere.
even when people die you dont see anything you just see like blood on the floor or somthing.
poor storyline, wont spoil it for anyone wishing to watch it, but most of the storyline became pointless by his later actions.

  In a word................ok.

A decent thriller that ambled along in parts and could have done wih a bit more pace and direction at times. The 2nd hour was an improvement and the acting was top knotch.
Finally a word on Mel Gibson, even after a number of years away from the big screen, with this movie he has proven he can still lead a film. So lets put aside his private life and realise he can move into the final third of his career as an actor of real depth and class.

  Quality Viewing

There are some actors who guarantee quality and such is Mel Gibson. I do not rate this film higher than the similar " Taken " with Liam Neeson but it is very entertaining and a good storyline.

Gibson gives a good performance as a grieving father in search of revenge but the lineup of villans makes progress a little aimless and the existence of Ray Winstone's character is a little pointless. He neither helps Gibson's search or hinders it.

All in all though entertaining even though the ending is a little bit too sentimental.

An uneven somewhat meandering thriller is given emotional pull by Mel Gibson excellent comeback performance. The lethal weapon hasnt lost it.
