In 1974, a misguided 19 year old decided he wanted to make a name for himself and so, armed with a sawn-off shotgun and a head full of dreams, he attempted to rob a post office. Swiftly apprehended and originally sentenced to 7 years in jail, Michael Peterson has subsequently been behind bars for 34 years and transformed into Charles Bronson, Britain's most notorious prisoner.

For this controversial but critically acclaimed film from director Nicolas Winding Refn (the Pusher trilogy), Tom Hardy physically transformed himself for the role and gives a performance described by The Sun as "utterly brilliant".

Charles Bronson is more of an enigma, not much really is known about Britains most violent prisoner, so making a film about him, should lift the mystery about this character. This is a low budget film, but it offers great and stylish direction, it's also darkly funny. Massive credit to Tom Hardy as Bronson, as the riggers he went through and bulking up to portray Bronson are very impressive, and he gives a mesmerizing performance, but the film never digs any deeper on what we already knew about the life of this character, and major events such as the Broadmoor riots and kidnapping of prison guards are just brushed over. I don't know if this could be due to budget restraints, but it makes what could have been a brilliant film into a passable evenings entertainment.
Bronson is a frustraiting film as it could have been so much more.

Bronson is one of those British movies which has been bigged up since day one, even its short lifespan at the cinemas received attention and it was advertised like any Hollywood blockbuster would be when it was released on DVD.
The beginning is brilliant, it has comedy, action and is just generally great to watch. It's a little bit weird with some slightly surreal moments but all of this helps take you into the mind of the mad man.
Around 20minutes it goes down, and we're not talking of a small slump... the movie seems to become stable with some very slow scenes. It begins to pick itself up a little bit and gets good again, and then all of a sudden it hits another pothole.
The middle section drags on, the scenes aren't the most action packed or entertaining, they're like a slowly paced drama but without the drama.
The end picks up again but its not as good as the beginning, although it's a lot better than the entire middle part.
Performance wise, Tom Hardy is mindblowing as Bronson, he comes across as a psychotic mad man who you just wouldn't want to know. A brilliant performance but it feels wasted when the writing of the script, and the majority of the films content is just poor.

Overall: Bronson is a decent watch, it has some brilliant moments but far too many downs. The beginning is immense, one of the greatest starts ever. When watching the beginning I had a feeling the movie was going to turn bad after such a brilliant start, and I was right.
Great performance from the lead along with average directing and a poor script makes for a So-So movie.

I bought Bronson thinking it would have more of a documentary feel but this is more of a dark comedy.

It's enjoyable enough but seems like a wasted opportunity as we never really learn much about Bronson as a person, which I was hopng for.

Oscar Worthy Performance, Razzie Worth Plot.

Tom Hardy gives us a stand out perfect performance, as total nutcase Charlie Bronson/Michael Peterson.
Hardy drives us forward with weak story. In fact he is the only thing that that stops one walking out of the cinema.
