Upon watching King Kong, you may well be slightly confused. You will have been amazed by the sheer beauty of the cinematography but still not quite satisfied. Or maybe 'too satisfied' would be a better term. This film is, simply, far too long. It doubles the running time of the original with seemingly no reason. Despite this, you won't feel like you know the characters any better, so the hour before we reach the island (yes, a whole hour) can be quite off-putting and for me really upsets the pace.

But as I mentioned, this film does look incredible, the CGI creating some gorgeous visuals. There is however an over-reliance on this, and Jackson made the classic mistake of not knowing when to hold back. A good example is the dinosaur stampede, purely in the film for the sake of it. Many directors have tried to capture the magic of 'King Kong' since it's epic original in 1933 and all have failed, but Peter Jackson's attempt is just diabolical. I think everybody forgets that Jackson isn't responsible for the CGI in his films, he directs the CGI by a green screen but he doesn't make it. The best films he has directed are his first two, 'Braindead' and 'Bad Taste', because they are incredibly stupid but entertaining.
This film isn't even anything like the original, the script is filled with pointless little extras and the film is 3 hours long which feels like 100 hours.
The cast for this film is ridiculous also. Naomi Watts and Adrien Brody are fine but Jack Black? Why?
If anyone was going to re-make 'King Kong', it should have been Guillermo Del Toro. Thank god he's making 'The Hobbit' rather than Jackson.

I admit, the CGI in this film is impressive, but the entire film relies on it. Nearly everything in this film is made by computer programmes. If your making a CGI animation picture then that's fantastic but this film was meant to be taken seriously, and I for one just couldn't do that.
I just hope Jackson's next film, 'The Lovely Bones' is better than his others.
