Comment: As a collector myself I know how important accurate information and grading are. I may not always be the cheapest, but here as in life you get what you pay for. I always answer emails promptly and never lie about availability of stock or the condition, check my feedback for reassurance. Additionally if I list an item as new then it is cellophane wrapped, listings for new items that are unsealed or shrinkwrapped or simply neglect to say whether they are sealed are rarely "New" as they pretend to be, with Film-Mart you get the quality I say you will. My grading criteria are as follows. New = Sealed, Like New = Missing Cellophane, Very Good = very minor signs of use, Good = Used but no major defects, anything less I do not sell and furthermore I grade strictly. Always despatched quickly and securely.

Elem Klimov's powerful, mesmerising and dynamic award winning feature has been deservedly hailed as one of the greatest war films ever produced.

Set in Soviet Belarus during the Second World War, the story follows Florya, a newly enlisted and innocent partisan, as he staggers dazed and petrified through the merciless horror of the struggle against a cruel German aggressor. Essentially the film is a rite of passage and Florya's face physically ages during the progression of the film as he is subjected to ever increasing brutal warfare and maniacal ethnic cleansing, routinely committed by the German forces.

The film's title is derived from the Book of Revelation and its call for witnesses to 'come and see' the carnage and devastation wrought by the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. The imagery created by Klimov is stunning and the battle scenes frighteningly realistic; the director actually used real ammunition during filming for maximum authenticity. Such brutality shocks to the core and the director's careful attention to style and detail make it all too believable whilst leaving the audience stunned and bewildered to the very last.

Quite simply the most distressing film I have ever seen. However this is not a criticism. I felt emotionally drained and couldn't quite come to terms with what I had just witnessed.
And that is what you are-a witness. A witness to levels of psychological violence that continues to build around the young central character until he is a dried out husk of a boy-sucked dry by the vampric apocalypse that was Operation Barborrosa.
There are many stand out moments but nothing prepares you for the climax-the extermination of an entire village at the hands of a desperate column of S.S.
The despair of the villagers situation is tangible-communicated by hysterical sound design and lucid editing rather than graphic depictions of violence.
An experience like no other.

 Unjustified and one-sided?? I think not !!

(Quote:RyanGK) ...portrays the Germans as evil homecidal types that I would say is very unjustifed and one-sided opinion Russian point of view. Not all German soldiers were Waffen SS Nazi murderers.

Yes, maybe but the soldiers portrayed in this film were Waffen SS Nazi murderers (to quote you yet again) and I thought the film was a very powerful and important film to watch. There was no one-sidedness about the film, this happened all over Russia and I can well understand why, being Russian, why they might feel the way they did towards the Nazi regime, especially after watching this film. 10/10

Sitting through this film was an effort in as much as it is so raw.The films lead is so believable as the bewildered young boy thrust into WW2 conflict in rural Russia.
The way the film builds with each horror and realism is only countered by moments of snatched calm.
Judge for yourselves,come and see.

This was both the greatest and yet most disturbing and emotionally draining war film i have ever seen. The film has an almost nightmarish qualty to it which is both surreal and unsettling at the same time. For those who say Saving Private Ryan is the greatest war film ever made, then i suggest they watch this film. Although Saving Private Ryan was good in some respects, especially from a Hollywood perspective, this film shows WAR in all its violence, death and destruction and nothing is left to the imagination. In comparison this film makes Saving Private Ryan look like an episode of Dad's Army. I must admit it is not your conventional war film as such, however it is certainly worth a watch, if you can stand to watch it. Don't be put off by this review however. Yes the film is harrowing and it stays with you a long time after watching it and it is certainly not a film to watch to relax or chill out. The film is important as it represents a side of the Second World War little see in film, especially as most Hollywood films are western-centric, focusing on the Allies, so this film is therefore different.
