Trust Him... He's A Cop.
Dennis Peck knows his way around the law. He can launder money, run a scam, fix a bad rap. He can even, for the right price, arrange a murder. "Trust me," he says, "I'm a cop."
Richard Gere is Peck and Andy Garcia is Raymond Avila, the investigator determined to bring Peck to justice in this supercharged police thriller. Peck isn't going down without a fight. The slick, cold-blooded manipulator intends to take Avila's career, his marriage and even his sanity with him in 'Internal Affairs'. "A fine tight script," says Gary Franklin (KABC-TV). "Two thumbs up!," say Siskel & Ebert - Trust them.

This has to be one of Richard Gere's best roles ever, as the slime ball corrupt Cop Dennis Peck. Where he can cover up anything, such as wrongly shooting some body, or he can even help you kill some one. But what many people did not know on the force was that he has a hidded secret.. he is a psycho!
That is until Andy Garcia is assigned to investigate a shooting, and as the corruption evidence starts to mount up and point it's finger toward's Gere, Gere secret is unleashed and the mind games begin between the two stars. Garcia is excellent as the I.A officer who has to investigate is old frinds on the force, but now they hate him due to becoming an Internal Affairs officer. But it's Richard Gere who steals the show, he is such a nasty dispicable character you just love to hate.
This also is the best film by Mike Figgis.
This is a well crafted and directed nasty thriller, with an fantastic support cast.
Superb!

Richard Gere is great to watch as he pushes Andy Garcia's buttons. Both actors give a convincing performance as Gere is desperate to retain his way of life as Garcia's investigation closes in.
This is almost a template for the excellent TV series 'The Shield' with both protagonists, Gere in Internal Affairs and Chiklis in The Shield, portrayed as 3 dimensional characters and you almost find yourself rooting for them.
Gere's performances are often critisized but this film proves given a good script and meaty role most competent actors can give a convincing performance.
