The complete first series of the classic BBC sci-fi serial - features all 13 episodes.

The year is 2089. An alien race stalks the land in towering machines known as Tripods. They have taken over the earth and enslaved mankind with a mind-controlling device, ceremoniously implanted at the age of fourteen. Will Parker anxiously awaits this ritual but hears of a place where a group of people is organising a resistance movement. Together with his cousin they leave their village, hoping to join them. They have not left unnoticed however, and the giant alien machines are in pursuit.

Based on the novels by John Christopher, The Tripods was one of the most expensive productions ever undertaken by the BBC, using a huge cast and many new special effects. Originally aired in the Saturday afternoon slot previously occupied by Doctor Who, The Tripods is another classic sci-fi serial from the BBC.

 The Tripods Season 1

Another classic 80's BBC adaptation, this time of John Christopher's book 1 of the Tripods trilogy "The White Mountains". It's looking a little dated, but they've done a good job of cleaning up the picture and still classic stuff. Well worth the investment.

Roll-on season 2, which after an 8yr wait is expected in a Season 1 & 2 box-set due March09 (unless delayed, again!).

Don't hold out for season 3 though, as it was never made. You'll have to resort to the book version and you'll not be disappointed. There is also a prequel that sheds light on the original Tripod invasion - "When the Tripods Came". It was written twenty years after the publication of the original "trilogy", and set in the late twentieth century.
