Martin is not like other children. Neglected by his parents, he watches the extraordinary events that occur in and around the family home from a distance. Quiet and introverted, it is only the housemaid and occasionally his brother, Didier, who pay him any attention. His mother has locked herself away in her room, while grandmother assumes control of a household that is slowly falling apart. When Didier discovers that his next-door neighbour and lover want to get married, all hell breaks loose and the family disintegrates, with terrifying results. Martin decides to take matters into his own hands, and reaches for a loaded gun...
Laurent Achard won the best director prize at Locarno for this bizarre and brutal film that is destined for underground cult status.

It was supposed to be an idyllic summer in the French countryside with the family staying in its large farmhouse and the sun shining perfectly. As seen through the doleful eyes of little Martin, however, it's anything but idyllic with Mum raving up in the attic, the elder brother slowly losing his marbles and his favourite gal pal becoming a woman. Actually, this is a quietly mesmerising little film, beautifully staged and very eloquent in its reticence.
