Very Annie Mary is a 2001 comedy film starring Rachel Griffiths and Jonathan Pryce. It's an eccentric sort of coming-of-age tale, set in Wales, about a woman in her 30s who lives with her abusive father.

After her father suffers a stroke, she is forced to take care of him but uses the circumstances to liberate herself and find the courage to sing once again.

It is a broad cute and quirky comedy, likeable and good-natured.

 Watch out for that cabbage!

I have welsh friends who feel that this remarkable little film is rather let down by Rachel Griffith's rather patchy accent ,who cares ? Joanna Page as little Bethan Bevan whose eventual demise leads into a moment of pure cinematic genius in a churchyard will bring a tear to the most cynical of eye. This film deserves greater plaudits than it has previously received and has a more accurate view of welsh village life than is perhaps good for it. A true delight.

 fantastic film must buy
