Review

The multi-award winning and critically acclaimed comedian Al Murray mightily presides over the pumps as the inimitable Pub Landlord in this brilliantly observed and hilarious pub based sitcom.

Episode 1 - A Woman's Place: The Landlord loves his gaff. It might not have a carvery but it's a pub, a real pub, where a man is a man and a woman is in the way. He's The Guv'nor and 'Rules is Rules'. But things are set to change with the arrival of Janet, a feisty Aussie with a filthy mouth and a talent for pint pulling.

Episode 2 - Never Confused: Muzz Jackson, the new Brewery Area Manager, insists The Guv holds a Gay Night. A gay night? In his Great British Pub? He gets a little hot under the collar because he was never confused.

Episode 3 - Hoppy Birthday: Every year on his birthday, Terry, the pub's resident loser, is duty-bound to drink himself under the table. It's tradition, a custom of the Landlord's Great British Pub and Terry's not complaining. But this year he's in for a shock!

Episode 4 - Monkey's Uncle: A run-in with some adolescent thugs leads The Guv into a confrontation with his old rival - Greg Thomson, the landlord from the big pub by the flyover. They go all the way back to Landlord Academy.

Episode 5 - King Barsteward: He'll never be a true 'Guv' until he's accepted into 'The Grand Order of Barstewards'. And when his chance arrives, The Pub Landlord will do anything to get his Membership. He might even clean the Gents.

Episode 6 - Date With Density: Man cannot live on beer and bar snacks alone. Every man has needs, and The Guv's no different - after all it's been a year. And when he finally gets himself a date, one way or another it will go with a bang.

Time Gentlemen Please ran for 2 series. The first series, which this is, had 22 episodes. How they can only release 6 episodes is beyond me. And at 16.99 for an incomplete series is a waste of money. The show however is fantastic. This DVD is not.

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars one of the best !!
