Merv Doody (James Heathcote) is a true horror-movie geek, he's seen it all. That is until fate delivers an inept lunatic to his doorstep! Instead of wetting his pants Merv decides to transform this wannabe wacko into a super cool psycho. Enlisting the aid of his best buddy Onkey (Dan Palmer), the pair set about creating the greatest masked maniac the world has ever seen. Forget Jason and Freddy. They're losers. The man with the spatula (that's right, spatula. You wanna make something of it?) learns his lessons too well and carves a path of destruction through the sleepy town of Redwater Cove. Merv and Onkey find that they are the only two who can stop the murderous rampage of their own creation. The only question is how do you destroy an unstoppable machine of moronic madness?

Freak Out is the shiz-nit, and a complete surprise. At first glance, the film may look like another one of those made in the back garden movies, a homegrown feature made by talent-free kids with too much time on their hands.
While the folks behind Freak Out likely had too much time on their hands, and the production is obviously homegrown, they are far from talent-free.
This movie is frickin' funny, goofily gory and ultra-energetic. In the tradition of Peter Jackson's early splatter-ilk, Freak Out is a surreal, totally unpretentious dose of lightning-paced insanity. The shots are short and fast-cut, the dialogue is delivered rapid-fire, the gore is blink-and-you-missed it (but effective nonetheless) and the story is PCP-laced. In short, this movie is awesome.
