In his sky-less cavern of a village Simon toils daily, drilling holes to expand his stifling little world until one day he makes an extraordinary discovery: a small glowing drill-bit and the man-sized mecha it activates. Before he can give it a second thought Simon's dragged into a plot to break through to the surface by the local gang leader Kamina, only to have the ceiling come crashing down on top of them under the weight of a giant monster!

It somehow falls onto the boisterous Kamina and the cowardly Simon to defend their village, but once they defeat the monster what awaits the duo on the surface world?

this is one of the many things ive watched, it is a fantastic anime and i reccommend it to anyone, has a great story and fantastic characters along with great humour, shame it was only 27 episodes, Kamina is one of the best characters from any anime or manga in a while

I bought this at the london expo and it is without a doubt the best mecha anine i have seen in a long time. I strongly rekomend buying this if your sick of the gundam rip'offs and same old same old giant robots destroying stuff, this is completeley new from the characters to the machines and the enemies they come accross. Honestly you havent seen a mecha anime like this before it is completly original and amazing beyond beliefe do do eeeeeeeeet and buy it now because its well worth it i can't wait for part 2 to come out.

Just who the hell do you think i am?!

I managed to buy this at the London Expo, and I absolutely love it.

The Limited Edition comes in a collector box which shuts with a magnetic door (You'll be entertained where it opens) and contains the Volume 1 DVDs (Episodes 1 - 9), as well as Yoko's badge/brooch, an Iron-on team Gurren Patch, and an LED Core Drill (which lights up green).

The collector's box is quite nice, and has enough space for what I assume are all 3 volumes of Gurren Lagann (for when the other 2 are released in Region 2).

On the DVDs there are a handful of extras. Textless openings and Endings, and some trailers. However, the best bit is the uncut version of Gurren Lagann episode 6. This episode is actually part of the episode list, and therefore put in place of the TV version (which is actually on the DVD as a bonus). It is by far funnier and more entertaining than the TV version, with more sex-related jokes than probably the other 8 episodes combined. It actually becomes an episode in its own right.

So if you are a big fan of Gurren Lagann, then I highly recommend buying this boxset. If you're not willing to shell out for the Limited Edition, the normal DVD version can suffice. To go without it, however, is to devoid yourself of an extremely enjoyable piece of entertainment.
