This DVD is an introduction to one of the more dynamic oriental styles of martial arts, Shotokan Karate.
It is an excellent programme for beginners to learn discipline and self-control, develop self-defence skills, build confidence and improve fitness and vitality. Karate master John Richards is a 7th Dan Black Belt, chairman and chief instructor of the Zen-Shin Karate Association and is highly regarded as one of Britain's top professional Shotokan instructors. He will demonstrate in detail the techniques which will take you through each belt from novice to fourth kyu grade, starting with the basic punches and kicks and leading up to the more advanced movements.
Developed alongside this are the five basic heian katas - shodan, nidan, sandan, yondan and godan, as well as tekki shodan kata. Also included is the Shotokan grading syllabus of the Zen-Shin Karate Association, plus an archive interview with John from 1988, explaining his background and experiences as an 'international bodyguard to the stars'.
