I was a little disapointed when i watched Red Dwarf Back to Earth,i just think they lost the momentum but still it was good to see them back on tele.I do hope they will be bringing more episodes out in the future cos i think all the other series were mint and they are worth the watch

what an under rated 3 episodes, this is the Return Of Red Dwarf, laughing all the time but should have included Holly and a laugh track.

It was good to see it back, but it was dissapointing, The banter between them was a bit slow and something was missing. But as my rating sows it was ok, but I would re-watch most of the older episodes 1st.

Its clear that in the first two episodes both the writers and actors are struggling to regain the momentum it took to make the fantastic sixth series, by episode 3 though there are flashes of what made Red Dwarf so popular. In fact i would say the final episode is funnier than anything in series 7 or 8, although now i've told you that your gonna expect much. oh sigh!

The fact that the boxset reads "set after season 10" is not a mistake or a typo it is because Grant Naylor decided to set this new series later to explain the age difference in the characters from season 8 to 10, The seasons inbetween have never been produced. Yes its strange why they have done this but it means we get Red Dwarf back with original actors instead of younger people. Hope this helps.

Congratz to Dave for making this decent new miniseries.

 A smeghead's opinion

Red Dwarf, being the original and highly entertaining series it once was have come back in this full length dvd in an all new adventure. Speaking as a smeghead (die hard red dwarf fan) i was dissapointed with the direction the writers took in starting the fans on a later series, when it was clearly obvious to all the fans that a follow on episode from series 8's cliffhanger would have been greatly recieved. The "Blade Runner" references were a great let down and totally weakened the story, the only good things to say about this DVD is that the story had no intention to bring back old jokes to gain fan appreciation and in fact had quite a few laughs along the way. Also the 2 discs offer a great deal of features that would please any fan, so no change to the usual features they have shown on the previous dvds. So to finish, any fan of red dwarf will disappointed with the storyline chosen but with the laughs and special features available, it'll grow on you!

 just wondered?

Nowhere near as good as the original's, for hardcore fans

This short series is nowhere near re-capturing the form of the original series, but it does have some glimses of it old self, Kryten and the Cat are severely under-used in the comedy stakes with the focus on Rimmer and Lister too much, far far to short also to get the series back on track and I don't see much chance of a re-boot of the series after this, funniest parts are in the second episode but at only 70 odd minutes it dose'nt take long before you get through it all anyway, could have been loads better.
