 A romp through Rome

I cannot recommend this series enough. The program oozes Roman Culture and Roman life, and it is my current favourite TV series (and I don't expect that to change until I watch Spartacus on Blu-Ray soon).

There is a *lot* of blood, violence, sex and language though. Not one to show the kids, but a very convincing series based in Rome with enough politics to keep those uninterested in violence very interested indeed.

Highly recommended!

ROME is probably the best historical series I have seen in ages, The story follows historical facts but also goes deeper into the two fictional main characters Verenus and pullo, Two soldiers who battle, live and love and really make you feel for them. The friendship is tested but never really broken "UP THE 13th!!!"

 Brilliant and Hooking!

I've been borrowing this Rome series from a friend and can NOT put the DVD's away. The story is well written and keeps you hooked into the series so you can never go a few days without watching to see what happens now.

A very impressive series that should of been more appreciated and advertised. There are a few scenes and bloody fights but it isn't as bad as some make out.

Definitely buy this series - I will be! And I'm getting Season 2 as well!

Every once in a while there is a tv series that you watch and treasure the memory of it. In recent times one such series has been Band of Brothers. Now there is something just as good to equal that type of sheer quality. Rome has brilliance all the way through it. You will watch this and then eagerly go and buy series 2. The characters are all so well played, you never know what is going to happen next and the sets are fantastic. There can't be anyone on the planet that doesn't rave about this unique series.
A warning, it is very gory and has lots of strong sex scenes in it.
This should not be watched with your granny.

Gritty, dramatic, emotional... this is drama as it should be. Like Eastenders with gore, swords and sandals. Convincing human characters flawed to perfection. Friendships and alliances both heartwarming and chilling. Plus it'll open your eyes... let's just say these people were somewhat frisky... oo er, matron!

I didn't catch this on TV, but have just finished watching the last episode tonight. For the most part, this is very gripping. Great acting, casting, good storyline and a liberal dash of sex and violence as expected in any Roman story. The only thing that stops it from getting 5 stars are a few of the middle episodes, which are still watchable, but I thought the story in Egypt got a bit silly and the script lost it's way a bit. The two leads are excellent. I remember seeing Kevin McKidd in Trainspotting 13 years ago and have never seen Ray Stevenson before. Their friendship is the focal point for the series and the history that develops around them. I can't wait to see Series 2 now!

 A masterpiece

This series can only be described as amazing! It's probably the best thing i've ever watched on TV and the acting is outstanding! It really provokes thought and emotion and provokes an interest in the Roman Era. Recommend it highly!

I had not watched this on TV, never really been a fan of ancient history but as soon as I saw a single episode I was hocked, and bought the box set, and season 2 (which so far is just as good). I love this programme its one of the best programmes on TV and I would happily suggest anyone to give it a shot.

Well done HBO!

Rome is, quite simply, fantastic. If you like HBO-style drama, or are a (non- squeamish) fan of ancient history, this is for you. More importantly, Kevin McKidd, who plays Lucius Vorenus, was in the Father Ted Christmas Special as the young priest who broke down when they were in the Lingerie department- how can you go wrong with casting like that?
