Great music, a superb cast and a fantastic dark and witty script took this 1987 multi-BAFTA winning series to number 82 in the BFI's top TV programmes of all time - and made household names of its stars, Robbie Coltrane (Cracker) and future Oscar winner, Emma Thompson.
The series follows the fortunes of rock and roll band The Majestics - Scotland's very own heroes of the 1960s beat boom - who re-group to play a 25th anniversary tour. Despite the death of lead singer Jazza McGlone in a freak car crash, band manager Eddie Clockerty is still determined to re-create the Majestic's halcyon days. So, in his place, the group's manager Eddie Clockerty recruits Jazza's less-than-enthusiastic

Tutti Frutti launched the TV careers of Emma Thompson, Robbie Coltrane and Richard Wilson . It is a funny story about the Majestics, a covers group who have just lost their lead singer, Big Jazza McGlone. With an imminent silver jubilee tour and a TV documentary planned, manager Eddie Clockerty (Wilson) gets McGlone's lookalike younger brother Danny (Coltrane) to fill his place. The series follows the band as they play in rough pubs and clubs in one drab Scottish town after another . Back in Glasgow, Clockerty and his secretary bicker at each other in exchanges that are just one of the series` highlights.
A classic comedy.
Just made my Christmas, this great series made so long ago, almost given up ever seeing it again! Great acting, marvellous music,ROCK ON ROBBIE!!!
I'm so glad that this has finally been able to get released. As a teenager in the late 80s, I grudgingly had to watch this with my parents on Saturday nights and ended up thoroughly enjoying it! The music is fantastic. A must for those who saw it and for those who didn't!
I was lucky enough to record this series on VHS long play when it was screened for it's first and only time 22 years ago. the quality of the tape has deteriorated through the amount of times I watched it and of course with age.
I urge the younger generation to buy this classic masterpiece, you will love the one liners in. I for one will enjoy watching it over and over again.
