An instant classic, very disturbing creepy film, very original story with some great acting, for horror fans this film is a gem. must own cult cinema at its best.

These days hollywood seems to be too busy remaking everything from over-seas to concentrate on delivering something original. This movie however, from the creators of hellraiser, is the fresh air the horror movie genre needed. Its a gripping, atmospheric and tense reinvisioning of the zombie movie well deserving of 5 stars.

Any film that deals with the dark subject matter of necrophilia is going to be contentious. But I think this gets away with it because of the uniqueness of the story. It would have been so easy for the makers of this film to go down the sick Gratuitous torture-porn route. The premise of a zombie girl tied to a gurney and used as a sex slave should have been a disgusting and unbearable to watch. But thankfully instead we are treated to a really profound, spine-chilling, suspenseful and provocative insight in to how twisted humans can be. The whole thing is dripping with social commentary. If you were in that basement where society's laws no longer apply, would you keep your morals?

If you ask anyone about this film, in all likelihood they will not even have heard about it - let alone seen it! Which is a shame as it is a cracking little film in its own right, depite the somewhat unpleasant & disturbing subject matter.

It is difficult to explain the plot without spoiling it, but as the blurb on the back of the case itself explains, 2 deliquent adolescent lads skip school for the day and wander into the local abandoned lunatic asylum (natch!) There they stumble across the body of a dead girl. Thing is, she's not really dead. And even though she's unkempt and disheveled, she's actually quite attractive. And the 2 lads can't fail to notice that she's naked & chained to a table in a "spread eagle" position. Hmm..........

The film itself is good without being spectacular, and the lead characters are well played & believable despite the very quick abandonment of their moral values. Deadgirl isn't a film everyone will enjoy, in fact, some will find it extremely distasteful which isn't surprising considering it is dealing with incredibly uncomfortable topics. However if you can get over this then you may well enjoy this unusual movie.

The best american horror movie in a very very long time. Unlike most generic horror movies, this one really tries to be different and definitely succeeds. There are some horrific and shocking scenes that will linger in your memory long after you have watched this film. Check it out if you like very strange interesting movies.
