Garth Marenghi's Darkplace: The Complete Series

Seriously funny... All the Dubbing, Bad Acting and the Low Budget, make this the most underrated program ever to have been made!!! Please buy it!

An incredible series! Such a shame that it is so underated! You'll love it if you are a fan of the IT crowd or the mighty boosh as many of the actors are in this series and it is the same kind of humour and comedy. Simply amazing!

Being a very immature 21 year old I found this hilarious. Its very silly and funny. I've watched it numerous times and it was definately worth what I paid for it. If your a fan of any comedy it'll be a welcome addition to your collection. If you are more picky this may not be for you. I have some friends who have either loved or Darkplace. You might say its a bit like marmite....

Will rats ever be able to drive a bus? Have you ever seen a mutated killer placenta attacking Bristol? These are just some of the random questions/theories that are dealt with in this daft, belly achingly funny and just downright silly comedy series. Darkplace was crippled in the ratings when it first appeared on TV back in 2004 (or is that the eighties?!) but since then it has slowly gotten the acclaim it deserves through repeats, DVD sales and word of mouth, sadly no second series of this brilliant show has ever materialised which is a shame, but the six episodes we have here are absolutely floorless.

Written, directed, starring (etc etc) Matthew Holness (the computer dude from the UK Office) and the brilliant Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd) and equally brilliant Matt Berry (The IT Crowd), Darkplace is a spoof of the spoof genre and it is hilariously done with every single detail being funny in some shape or form. Like someone has mentioned, the opening credits to the episodes themselves earn this three stars, with the rest of the content earning the rest, theres nothing to fault, because they are deliberately doing it!

Any fan of films like Airplane! The Naked Gun or the Police Squad TV series will find this little gem funny as its the same type of humour and as with those films and TV series; it is fantastic, theres not much more I can say than that, you should definitely buy this as you certainly wont be disappointed. The question now is, Dare you enter his Darkplace?

How this isnt more famous and well known I'll never know. Its so amazing and the funniest thing I've seen in a while.

You really have to have a warped sense of humour to fully appreciate this gem. It has some serious oddball moments - the actors purposefully act with about as much believability as your typical Fair City actor; the sets are purposefully dreadful; the editing designed to be the worst it can possibly be - and it's all the more wonderful for it. The jokes are hard-hitting, random, but always clever. The visual gags are even better, and the script, no matter how bizarre, always seems to work. Characters are intentionally dubbed over, with the same actor and out of sync, they nervously look at the camera several times each episode, props appear and disappear between obvious takes, words cannot describe how zany this series is. It has to be seen to be believed. Guwan, take a risk, you won't regret it!

A true modern classic. The level of detail is quite stunning and it gets better with every watch. Plus, the commetary tracks are so funny you'll die of laughter.

This is a really funny and original comedy series which I really enjoyed. Although I hate comparing two completely different series' it has to be said that the humour is very Mighty Boosh-esque and you can see that Noel and Julian must have got a lot of their ideas from working with these guys (they both appear in the series). I really love the fact that the series constantly pokes fun at itself but yet takes itself totally seriously at the same time.
I would recommend this to fans of shows such as The Mighty Boosh, Spaced & to a lesser extent Flight Of The Conchords.
This DVD is also packed with bonus material, and, overall is an essential addition to any comedy connoiseur's collection, so at this price its definately worth a look.

This series was largely overlooked and underated when it was first shown. I watched it then and thought it was fresh, original and above all very funny. Good performances all round from a cast who looked like they were having fun. Spoofing series like The Twighlight Zone and Stephen King it hits the mark a lot more often than it misses. I've just watched it again and my opinion hasn't changed, still great fun.

How can Channel 4 let a show like this disappear into obscurity? It's a sin!

I can't think of anything bad to say about this series. It is up there with some of the other great comedies. Personally for me this is the BEST comedy of this side of the millenium. I'll treasure this forever and scold at Channel 4 for snubbing this for crap like "Star Stories and Friday night project"

Buy it and lap up the genius!!
