Genius and SO underrated on it's TV release.
I love this show, it came before The IT Crowd and Mighty Boosh (both Matthew Holness & Richard Ayoade appear in these shows and Fielding & Barratt in this) and should have been as much a hit as those shows.
I love Matthew Holness & Richard Ayoade - both sex gods in my deluded opinion.
I guarantee that you've never seen anything quite like this - it's a 70's spoof sci-fi show, with supernatural goings on, but with a contemporary sense of humour.
Really smart, well made and a joy to watch!
Garth is an author genius who will take you to his dark place and you'll never come back!
If you love the Boosh or Spaced, you'll love this too.
At £5.99 it's a complete bargain for the whole series!

Hilarious, original and clever. Sad to think no more will be made and it hasn't got the recognition it desverves, but it's rarity only adds to it's brilliance!!!

The best comedy in the last few years easily, possibly the best comedy in the last few decades - could even be the best comedy ever. So funny it you have to pause the dvd to laugh to make sure you don't miss anything. The only bad thing is that it ends.

Garth Marenghi's Darkplace is a masterpiece. I would recommend this DVD to all fans of The Mighty Boosh, The IT Crowd and The Office.

One of the best comedies I've ever seen.

I stumbled upon this completely by accident while flicking through channels until I found this at 11:30 pm on channel 4. I found it ridiculas that a comedy of this quality was on so late when not many people would see it. After watching the first two hilarious episodes I decided to buy the series. I was not dissapointed, every episode filled with genious comedy moments. This is up there at the top of the comedy pile with The Office in my opinion and any comedy fan needs to buy this.

  Im a one track lover.

Strangely mirroring the fate that befell Garth Margenhi's Hospital set Horror drama, Channel 4 buried Darkplace in the schedules when it was broadcast in 2004. A shame since it's the funniest and most original comedy series in aeons. Fictious horror novelist, actor, director and "Dreamweaver" Garth Marenghi created his own show for channel 4 but it was never aired because it was "Too radical, too damned scary". In truth it was never aired because it was poorly written, acted and edited with special effects so slipshod that even Uwe Boll would find laughable. and there's also the slight problem of Channel 4 not actually asking for the show to be made. Here Writes Richard Aoyade and Matthew Hollness weild a fan boy love for Crappy horror movies to hilarious effect lacing the shows with analysis from Marenghi and Producer/ Co Star / Special effects technician Dean Lerner. How this would extend to a 2nd series is anyones guess but this comedy at its best. as Garh would say "Sit back and enjoy...Well i say enjoy".

  Obviously too young to remember.........

As this show was originally created in the early 80s, I would have been too young to remember its' author, Garth Marenghi, who created such classics as 'Slasher', 'Maggot' and the seminal 'She-Demon'.

Greetings, fellow traveller, I am FranDaMan. Reviewer of such films as 'Transformers' and 'Family Guy - Blue Harvest'.

No, seriously, I LOVE THIS SERIES!!!!

A lot of people try to get the spoof film/series thing right. This bad boy ticks all the boxes.

MARVEL - At the solid-esque quality of the sets.

SHUDDER - At the high-end special effects (no CGI here, folks)

HOLD BACK THE VOMIT - At our Hero's corpulent, girthsome physique.

Garth Marenghi's Darkplace........ Comedy doesn't get much better than this!!
